Well, the belly button is basically what's left of our umbilical cord. So there will be some dead skin cells and yes, feces too. Stick your finger in there, wiggle it around and smell it. What does smell like? Exactly. And why did you put this in the food and drink question section?

.Your belly button is the scar left from the cutting of the umbilical cord.

And my daughter-in-law is a professional body piercer. 'she says that usually belly buttons are full of disgusting dirt and germs. She says people don't really pay attention to cleaniin all the wrikles in the belly button and they are really disgusting. Belly button fuzz (or lint) comes from the clothes you wear. Some fabrics shed more than others. Some shapes of belly buttons are better collectors. A hairy belly button will collect fuzz better than a hairless one. If you perspire a great deal, the perspiration in your belly button will tend to collect more fuzz from fabrics.

Quite simply, it is collected fibres from your clothing. There's probably a little dead skin in there too, but the majority of it is small fibres from your clothes. Contrary to popular belief, evidence suggests that belly-button fluff comes up from underwear rather than down from your t-shirt or top.

There's nothing inside of the navel. When you shower, stick a soapy finger in there and clean it. There should never be lint or odor there, this is gross, means it's very dirty.
