" I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them 'in' poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I traveled much, and I observed in different countries that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less that was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.

The writings of Benjamin Franklin, Volume 3

(several Presidents quoted him believing this to be true-this did not mean no aid to disable or elderly as Benjamin and others did support that)

In short

Creating dependency would never have the results anyone--especially the poor would want.
We need to not encourage this (and supporting illegal immigration does)-and the people of Mexico needs to work out their own problems.

I believe this to be true--your feelings?

It does apply to those we enable here too.

And Sqwril what are you ranting about? And it is Mrs.--for a long long time-married high school sweetheart-still together.

Self sufficient is the way to go. Dependency on America's economy to improve another country's economy is going to have an affect on America in the end, whether you believe that or not. We need to secure our borders and not automatically give Illegal aliens amnesty. I liked this quote..

Hadenough: Ignore the incoherent ones words, they never make any sense and are mean spirited.

I believe it in it's totality, and not just within the scope of Immigration. Look at the dependant poor in this country. Of course there are those that wish to keep them down, especially Blacks. The extreme white Left, and Black "Community Leaders" would be out of a job if the Black masses integrated economically, and became self sufficient.

Any one who is not taught the value of earning things, will never treat what is given them with respect.

I agree with you. I never give to panhandlers because I believe it just keeps them out there begging and not working. People have grown use to the good hearted gestures and have begun to depend, rely, and demand them.

Seeing all the illegal people march in LA, NY, and Washington DC demanding rights and privileges is outrageous! Our being nice and offering a helping hand has turned-out to be a demand for a hand-out.

Wake up America. This is not racism, just the belief that every person should be willing to provide for themselves, work for their rewards, and follow the processes set forth by our rules and laws.

True immigrants understand their need to integrate, not insist that others accept their nonconforming behaviors.

Yes it's true. We have created poverty even with our own. We don't need to add more.
In Wisconsin they had a five year plan for Aid, many left the state looking for aid elsewhere. Rather than taking that time and improving their life.
And you are correct, we are not helping Mexico at all by allowing all the help they are receiving. They need to stand on their own.

As long as the government enables people to take advantage of a flawed system (welfare), there will always be a place for immigrants. It doesn't matter if they are legal or illegal. What most people consider to be beneath them, these people find to be an opportunity. What about the people who are willing to exploit them for the sake of making $$$?

Sad to say-greed is one of the seven deadly sins and the capitalistic system is successful because of greed. Trouble is-the masses have been so dependent on others to bail them out for so long now that they are demanding it and not asking for it. They, when able, will always use the racial ploy as a crutch. That's what I believe and if you think it is racist, that shows that you are using that racial ploy. Comprendo?

I agree. That is why they defined a term called 'codependency' - or acting in a way that actively supports failure to succeed.

There's an 'immigration results magazine' board? Is is any good?

I see Squirrelbrain is at you too. It's funny how she pretends not to like us but she just has to answer our questions with some stupid INCOHERANT remark. Ignore her. She only cares about blacks and Mexicans.

wow. I spoke to a black man not two days ago that told me the reason why blacks have such a reputation for stealing is because that's what whitey did, teach them to steal. This is exactly what he was talking about.
