A rapid weight gain seems to make your tummy bulge. I noticed that same thing happened with my daughter when she gained weight after being quite thin for all her life. Unfortunately, the only thing to do is to work out! Exercise, situps, stuff like that. Good luck!

OK I'm not a doctor but, if you want your tummy to a a little flat but still have flesh in your body is to exercise. Look, I'm in your situation and what I think you should do is also to eat vegetables, fruits, fish, grains. Practically everything on the food pyramaid. Back to the exercise, maybe you could run or jog or whatever, but just make sure it is an active activity (that excludes writing or reading). What I mean is of a physical activity that pumps up your heart. And about the sweets, substitute that with a fruit (or a dried fruit) like grapes, apples, dates (not going out), figs, peaches, etc. Instead of drinking a soda, drink water or a low cals. low or no fat drink. And STAY AWAY FROM ALCOHOL (unless you're using it to heal yourself). If you want more sweets, get low carb low fat ice cream, or even sherbert (or sorbet). You will lose a few pounds but can gain healthy weight.
For breakfast, try eating toast w/o any butter or jam, eggs without the yellow part, and some healthy fruits and vegetables. Also, drink a protein shake. You'll lose pounds in a few days.
For lunch, you can either skip it or eat a few fruits and drink water.
For a snack, try eating those gelatin cups with fruit from the fruit company, DOLE. You can find them in a grocery store.
And for dinner, eat some meat, BUT NO PORK, LAMB, GOAT, VEAL, and/or BEEF!!! (Very fattening).Along with the meat, eat a hearty salad or a hearty soup. You may have bread, BUT with little bits of butter. Maybe you should substitute meat for soy meat since it's vegetable meat.
For dessert, get something small, like a scoop of ice cream and that's it.
In between meals, get plenty of water and exercise.
Note: These are suggestions. I am not controling or bossing your life. It's up to you.

Working out your abs should help. Weight training will also help add muscle to your frame instead of fat. Regardless, your stomach may not be as flat as it used to be, but it doesn't mean it's a fat tummy.

You just tend to gain weight in your stomach when you DO gain weight.
(I gain mine in my legs)
As you gain weight, your stomach won't look as big.
Why were you underweight to begin with?
