I think it would be pretty ungrateful not to. Don't you?

how do you mean this ? chores around house ? money ? working at the family store ? out of respect kids should gladly help the parents.. at the age of 10 kids should start having responsibilities that are more than just making the bed... mom and dad work hard to put a roof over kids heads, and food on the table, not to mention those $50 jeans on their back sides... if kids do not learn at home how to work and take charge of their own lives, where do you think they will learn it ?? in my home, I raised 3 boys, all grown now, but they had to work for 3 months before getting drvers licenses, and they had, I say HAD to pay for own insurance... obligation ? maybe not.. out of respect... YES ... God bless

Not in today's north American way of life. But this does not take away the feeling of obligation nor prevent us from acting on it. I would do anything I could for mine which is very little sadly they deserve to be cared for for their whole life. They continue to do for us and they are in no way obligated they just do. The answer to your question depends on many factors every ones experience is uniquely theirs so I would say no ,but maybe we should just want to. I like the European way several generations in one house instead of spread across the country. Our elders should be respected and loved, love is an action not a reaction.
Hope that helps, ~A~

I help my dad who tried to raise me when my mother left him when he was sick for another man. I moved in with her five years later and she let my stepfather abuse me. She knew my brother did certain things to me when I was younger and it was to be hushed.

She is not my mom. A woman that was once a neighbor filled that roll. If my biological mom ever needed anything she can go elsewhere. Most women can give birth but being a "mom" is MUCH more than that. I have forgiven my biological mother her but I can't forget. The last time I spoke to my narcissistic mother was hours before my labor was induced she went on and on about my brother and whatever and I told her that it is no longer about her.

. Now if my "mom" every needed anything I would be right there! Family is those who care, love and nurture....

Yes, if the parents feed them and put a roof over their head, I think the kids should help out around the house.

Only if it has been instilled in them from the beginning and made to be fun too. My daughter is almost three. She stared walking at 9 mo. At nine months she was walking behind me with a rag in her hand. She cleans toilet bowls it is fun for her and my toilet is always clean so if she wants to swoosh, I say hell yeah baby swoosh! Kids learn what they are taught, if they are five and u are just beginning, good luck with that.

Yes. Now go help yours! You never know when you will need the help and have no one to ask except your parents.

I believe it is our honor and duty to take care of our parents as good if not better than they took care of us, with patience and love we should be there for them when they need us. This applies to all ages.
