That all depends on the communication between the 17 yr old and The parent/s. It depends on what kind of teenager he is...how responsible he is.. What kind of friends he has, and what he likes to do.(where does he want to go...and do you trust he will be safe?)... Depends on where you live..and any past issues you've had with him. It doesn't start at 17.. it starts very young.. Be reasonable..talk to other parents ...but most importantly...communicate with the 17 yr old....Compromise and demand respect...but remember.....give.....what you expect back...! Good Luck!

My 18 yo boy just left for college about a week ago, and I still have a 16 yo boy at home. Here's what we have done --

On any night, he is expected to let me know where he is, what he's doing, and who he's with. If he doesn't have a legitimate reason to be out -- he's not. What that means is that he's only "out" with friends about once-twice per week.

On school nights, his bedtime is 10:30, with lights out at 11:00.

On Friday his curfew depends on how the questions (previously stated) are answered. My 16 yo has never been "out" past 11:00 (other than when he's working at Culver's Restaurant.) He has no bedtime on Fridays.

Saturday bedtime is midnight at the latest so that we can attend Church Sunday morning.

You get the picture . . .

As long as the teen is responsible, midnight sounds like a good curfew for any 17-year-old.

Well it depends, there should always be limitations to everything and by setting a curfew, you are setting limits and makin boundries which will sort of help the 17 year old boy. 11 o clock is very reasonable but at times **** happens so just go easy on them!

I have a 17 year old and a 22 year old - 10:30 on school nights and 11:30 on weekends unless they are at a special event where it would be slightly later, but they have never gotten home later than 12:30 - oddly enough for a school/band function.

It depends. summer time when there is no school about 12

during school 11 15

make rules like:
if you miss curfew (give a 5 minute grace period) you have to come on 15 minutes early and keep subtracting 15 minutes each time they are late until 2 months is over then start over fresh if you like.

During the school week, I would say between 10 and 11 pm he still has to get sleep for school, on the weekends I would say between 1 and 1:30 am if he is a good kid, if he tends to follow the crowd then I would say as early as possible until he becomes a little more responsible.

if you are just now letting him out of the house for night tours, dates etc.... I would suggest starting out with a mid-night or 11:30, then after about a month or so, your call, add 30 mins. to it... let him earn time by trust..... keep the curfew, add minutes.... special occasions, if curfews have been met and no off limit ocurrances, such as drinking, smoking, etc. , then add 45 mins. to curfew..... the more he obeys the rules the more time he earns........ or I also made time options, such as go out on friday, come home at 12:00 or 1, 12 ment could go out sat. night but home at 11:30, come home at 1 on friday, NO going out sat. night........ just suggestions, but you alone know your son .. if he is trustworthy of more or less time ???? God bless
