I have a Sanyo DS32224, 32" TV that gets a discolored spot in the upper left corner when the screen is bright (white or light blue does it the worst). It tints the area greenish at first, and then goes purple-ish in time. The spot will spread downward along the left edge of the screen. It takes about a minute or two of a constant bright screen to cause it, and within another five minutes there's a blob about half the height of the TV and a few inches wide that's discolored. If the image on the screen changes, it gets better at about the same rate (a few minutes on darker images or changing colors and it's gone). Video games seem to do it the worst, although certain DVDs (again, mostly ones with really bright scenes) also cause it.

Any ideas on what's causing this or if there's something (easy and cheap) to fix it?

This fault appeared many years ago when a new model was launched I can not remember the make now but I can tell you that we were all baffled for a while , we tried degaussing and even blamed the tube, the manufacturer finally stepped in and supplied the answer ! No the tube was not " fried " and it was not magnetised !, the correct term for the condition was called " poor white uniformity " , the solution was simply to reset the purity magnets on the tube neck , ! about 5 mins all up !!

Check and make sure that you have no speakers close to the tv as the magnet in speakers can cause this problem.Move the speakers away from set and then turn on and off a couple times and the coils should clear it up.
