Hi there... It's the salt ingredient that is considered unhealthy but has to be consumed in large enough quantities to effectively affect the electrolytes. Like tuna it should be only offered as a rare treat, but according to some vets it's best advised to not serve it regularly. I have included some weblinks below that describes other human foods that are not safe for a cat's consumption.

Several of my cat love those green spanish olives...there is really nothing in there that should affect them....but they act like they do when I give them catnip. As far as a healthy cat...there is no harm in giving them olives as long as it is not ALL the time. Nothing is good in large quantities. If your cat is on meds and should not have the salt...then I would not give them to him. I have NEVER heard of olives being toxic to cats, like someone else suggested..think my cats would have gotten really sick by now if they were.

I have a cat that likes pickles, strawberry ice cream, strawberry yogurt and a few other things. Cats (as told by the vet) don't have taste buds for sweet things and suggested he likes it because of the cold texture. But he only bugs me when I have something strawberry flavored. Tonight he took the pickle off my plate.
I would say give him one as a treat every now and then but not in excessive quantities.

If your cat has medical problems and is taking medication, I wouldn't let him eat anything but cat food...they probably won't kill him, but if he eats too many he will get sick. And if he's after the salt; well too much salt intake isn't even good for humans.

the olives will not hurt him, as cats do need greens, and the olives can be as such, the salt intake is to be watched, they like salt that is why so many times they will lick us, it is for the salty taste of the skin. as long he is not eating them by the pounds and drinking plenty of water to flush the body out, he is fine with it ...
