We have roughly 1300 dollers. Starting in Mid Missouri, taking the southern route to San Diego going through Oklahoma City and Phoenix. On the way back, taking a northern route going through Vegas and Denver.

Plan on doing some sight seeing. Food and drink is all purchased for two people. Driving a 2001 Intrepid.

Yeah...you will make it. IF nothing happens bad on the way. It should be a fun trip! I went from Omaha to the Grand Canyon a few years back via Casper Wyoming....Take the scenic back roads... The journey is more important than the destination! Stay in CHEAP Crappy small town Motels... you should not have any trouble finding places for 50 bucks/night or less. Be sure to talk a bit with the owners. Owners of cheap out of the way Motels usually have some interesting stories to tell. Avoid any Motels with the name 'Bates". lol!

Your Intrepid should get very close to 30 mpg on the road. Go to Mapquest.com and check the total mileage for the trip...and add 10% for sightseeing miles. Divide total by 30 to see how many gallons of gasoline you need...and figure an average of 3 bucks/gallon...and you will know if you have enough fuel money.

Be sure to figure Xtra money for parks fees/sightseeing money.

If you have not seen the following list...I highly recomend it.
1: Grand Canyon...
2: Four Corners Marker...just to get your picture taken standing in 4 states at once...
3: Mesa Verde National Park... If you are in average or better physical condition... GO SEE THE Ancient RUINS! I thought it was cool...
4: Forget Denver...its a cesspool... but if you have time check out Rocky Mountain National Park... It is Georgeous!
5: If you come back across Nebraska instead of Kansas... the drive is more scenic...not much but better than Kansas...Chimney Rock, Jailhouse/Courthouse Rock and Scottsbluff is worth seeing if you have time.

Somewhere in New Mexico or Arizona...I forget...but I took a detour to see a Giant Meteor Crater. The Stinkin Parks Service charged us 12 bucks/head to see it...but they dont let you walk around down in the crater! So... it cost my buddy and myself half a day and 24 bucks to see a big crater in the ground...Not worth it in my opinion.

Sounds like a Great Trip! Have fun! If you can... bring a Credit Card in case of Emergency!

If you sleep in the car and pack stuff to eat to make sandwiches and picnic at rest stops. also every couple days take a shower at truck stops. look in souvenir shops but don't buy anything. A few times along the way splurge on a cheap motel and a big mac.

How long do you plan on staying, and where do you plan on staying. Depending on the things you do, and where you stay I think you could do it on 1300. It may be tight though. Just don't drive too fast, as it causes you to get worse gas mileage.

Start in Vegas and gamble your $1300 up to $13000 and you'll have a nice trip.

UNLESS YOU SLEEP IN THE CAR AND LIMIT TO 1 MEAL PER DAY, YOU WON'T MAKE IT WITH ONLY $1300.

Depends on your gas mileage on your vehicle.
