I am pretty much agnostic myself but I do have respect for honestly religious people. I look kindly on those that wish to convert me to their faith. My feeling it that they think they have the right answer or the ticket to heaven and they want to share it with me. What could be a nicer gesture?

I was wondering if there are any religions that don’t want converts.

My religion doesn't mind people converting over because that is usually the only way for people. We just don't go out and actively try to get people to join. If people ask then we will tell them but we don't go out and force our beliefs on others.

I disagree with Mr. Fancy Pants about Hindus being one of the religions that do not accept converts. There have been some Hindu efforts to proslytize their faith. A perfect example is the Hare Krishna movement(AKA The International Society for Krishna Conscientiousness.).

Zoroastrians do not accept converts. Druzes do not accept converts. And I don't believe Mandeans accept converts either.

The reason why: I don't know.

Back in the 19th & early 20th centuries, the Shakers did not truly recruit converts. They were a small Christian sect that were known for taking in orphans or unwanted children and raising them. The members of the Shakers never married, and they did not recruit converts. Most of the adult Shakers were those who were raised by the denominations members.

With the rise of more comprehensive social services, the number of children who were raised in the church dropped precipitously, and there are only a handful of surviving Shakers still alive.

Actually Judaism does not seek converts. There is no such thing as a Jewish missionary. Now if someone is truly interested in learning about Judaism and is considering converting on their own initiative, then great. But proselytizing is totally against Jewish tradition. Notice I didn't say we don't want converts, just that we do not actively seek them out.

In the southwest US, the various pueblo religions do not seek out or accept converts. The same is true for "traditional" Navajo religion, as opposed to Native American Church religion which is also popular in the various Indian Nations. You'll never be bothered by missionaries exhorting you to come to the kiva and be saved.

I don't know about the religion itself, but I heard Jewish people are uneasy about converts. They want to remain "pure" and small so the society is controllable.

To be honest, this does not make sense to me because if they beleive their religion is the One why dont they want others to find peace in their religion. Selfish, dont you think. The people not the religion I have a problem with.

Most Pagans and Eclectics don't try to convert you. Reason being they follow a structure of beliefs situated for their group or themselves as an individual so they don't look outside that. You will have to ask them yourself if you want to convert to it or pick up the same beliefs on your own.

I know because I'm a Solitary Eclectic so I have no reason to convert anyone being I practice alone.

Hinduism does not want or accept converts.
You are either born a Hindu or you are not. simple as that.
It is not a religion that accepts converts. People cannot convert to Hinduism; some convert away from Hinduism if they are Hindu by birth, but a non-Hindu, to my knowledge, cannot become Hindu.

Sorry to say Fritz, but we are all converts. Before we were saved, we were all on the wrong path. Somebody shared Christ with me. Some people grow up in a Christian home and one day turn around and realize they never accepted Christ as their savior. The Lord is awesome. I can't imagine my life without Him.
Ah Fritz, you sound so close. God Bless your journey!

jews actually dont recruit. you either want to be one or you dont. we're not going to knock on doors or hand out flyers. mostly because judaism doesnt rely on worldwide conversion to bring about the kingdom of heaven or whatever. its not that we dont want people, we dont need them. also, in judaism, salvation does not lie in judaism. if you are not a jew thats fine. temple law may limit some jews interaction with non jews, but that doesnt mean god hates you or something. you can be a righteous non jew.
