A diuretic is a pill that makes you urinate, It works by preventing the kidneys from transporting sodium from the kidney tubules back into the blood.

A diuretic (colloquially called a water pill) is any drug that elevates the rate of bodily urine excretion (diuresis). Diuretics also decrease the extracellular fluid (ECF) volume, and are primarily used to produce a negative extracellular fluid balance. Caffeine, cranberry juice and alcohol are all weak diuretics.

If you're pregnant, or had a kidney or bladder infection or several other things (some sugar level problems, diabetes or high blood pressure) you will notice your feet and/or ankles get puffed up. Lots of times it'll be your hands. Your shoes will be too tight, or will ache, or your rings won't fit or you can't entwine your fingers. So.....better go to the Doctor. He will give you a diuretic. This will get rid of excess fluid, BUT, be sure to drink plenty of water while you are taking them. Serious.
