I've been a cosmetologist for 9yrs & can tell u baby oil is a BAD idea. Think about putting oil in a hot skillet. That's what u r doing 2 ur hair. U should be putting a product on ur hair b4 using any heat 2 protect it & help acheive & retain ur style. But it needs 2 b a professional hair care product purchased @ a hair salon. There r many out there specifically designed 4 straightening hair. Matrix has a whole line called Sleek.

I think baby oil would make your hair icky. There are plenty of store brand and saoln products made to help straighten hair. I use srt8 by Rusk, I buy it at the salon.

you could always just buy something that protects your hair from heat. there are a bunch of products. i use this stuff from aussie. its a heat protector and a leave in conditioner. you just spray it on and then straighten.

Use a product that is meant for the hair and for heat...heat protection cremes, sprays, and gels are avaliable at beauty supply places. 'Pink' is an example of one such spray.
