Permethrin is an effective insecticide, however I would not use this product for flea control. Permethrin can cause toxicity in cats...do NOT use on cats, period! Permethrin is the man-made form of pyrethrin (an insecticide derived from chrysanthemums). Both products only kill the adult flea, which is only about 2-5 percent of a flea population. The rest is made up of eggs and larvae. So, you would really only be getting rid of a tiny portion of your problem! Also, I would not recommend a lotion anyway. It may freak out your pet :) If you do have a flea problem, my suggestion to you would be to use Frontline Plus. (A topical product made for cats and dogs) It is practically waterproof and often lasts longer than the guaranteed 30 days. If you have a really bad flea problem, there is an AWESOME product in pill form called Capstar that will kill virtually every flea on the animal in 20 minutes. However, it only lasts 24 hours, but during that time, you can apply the Frontline to get a "jump start". I do realize that these products, namely the Frontline, are not cheap, but they do an excellent job. I hope this will help you out. By the way, I was a vet tech for 4 years...just in case you were wondering! BTW, even when using topicals you may still see some fleas occasionally. These are more than likely newly hatched fleas, and they will die after coming in contact with your pet, usually before they even get their first bite. :)

fleas have gotten so used to permethrin it most likely will not help much. you have to be very careful what you use on cats and i would not use anything on a kitten unless i talked to my vet first. frontline and advantage are the best and safest products on the market now. the active ingredent in frontline spray is fipronil 1 oz to a gallon of water poured on a fire ant hill get rid of them for good. they are gone never to return. just FYI. you cannot get this insectide at any store.

Pyrethrein is a chemical you use on your lawn or shrubs to kill bugs. NOT on people or pets. What is safer is using DEET on you and your pets and it can be found in a lot of sprays. However, you really should be using products designed for humans on you, and products designed and are SAFE for pets on your pets..

do you mean pyrethrin lotion?
Flea killers can be very toxic to cats, so I would advise you contacting your vet.
