Until the advent of in vitro fertilization, the only way to conceive a baby was through sex. If she was the mother of Jesus, there's no way she could have been a virgin.

No, I don't, but then who knows she actually existed? Just because a book says so does not mean the event really happened. And even if she did, no, I don't believe she was a virgin when she gave birth. Just like I don't believe Jonah lived in a whale's tummy for three days. I stopped believing in fairy tales years ago.

But some people do take the virgin birth quite seriously. However, not all Baptists have a high regard for Mary, see attached. There have been lots of Mary sightings lately.

The Catholic church, which experienced the Blessed Virgin Mary through the Apostles and the other disciples, knows for a fact that she was a virgin before she gave birth to Jesus, that Jesus came forth in birth without destroying her virginity, and that she remained a virgin ever more.

Why would anyone bother to maintain this posiion if it wasn't absolutely true?

Thousands knew the Blessed Virgin and cherished her as the God-bearer, especially after her son ascended to heaven.

Those who misread scripture to make it say what they wish it to say, choose to ignore what the church knows from on the scene, eye witness testimony.

Such willful ignorance does nothing but bring disrepute on the doubter.

God made the Blessed Virgin a very special woman. Everything she is was pre-ordained from eternity.

Mary is the God-ordained role model of humility, faith, chastity, and holiness ... "family values" that are very important to him.

Why not leave it at that?

She was until she had Jesus and then went on to have at least 6 more children. (The ones that most people either don't know about or forget about when they wish to claim she is an eternal virgin. Cant be one if you have lots of babies, can you?

Mark 6:23: "Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?”—Mark 6:2, 3, RSV, Catholic edition"

Yes. Because in the gospel of Luke, after the annunciation of the angel that she will bear a child, she said: "How can this be since I am a virgin?" That would appear to be a foolish question if she knows that Joseph as a husband will touch her.

But that passage shows that she is a virgin and has the intention to remain as she is.

If I lived back then, and I thought that I was going to be stoned because I had gotten pregnant out of wedlock and brought shame to my family, I probably would have claimed to be a "virgin" too. I think something to this effect was on the history channel once.

We Muslims believe she remained a virgin. Some Christians too believe that.

Of course. Until after Jesus was born. The bible tells us that Mary and Joseph did not have sexual relations until after His birth.
