Ah, now here's a controversial topic. Scientifically speaking, stem cell research may open the door to increased longevity due to the proposed ability of stem cells to cure life-threatening and disabling diseases and genetic disorders. On the other hand, some people are opposed to stem cell research on moral, ethical and religious grounds, believing that it's wrong to use the stem cells of aborted fetuses, or to artificially inseminate ova for the primary purpose of producing stem cells from the resultant embryo. So actually, the objection centers on the use of embryonic stem cells as opposed to stem cells taken from host donors. When science and religion, ostensibly at odds with one another since the beginning of time, can come together on this, stem cell research can be a major breakthrough in extending and enhancing life to the point where people can live to a ripe old age in perfect health. It's almost a utopian concept, or as Shakespeare put it; "....a consumation devoutly to be wished."
