It depends on the addict and the addiction.

Alcohol IS a drug. Narcotics Anonymous says this in all of their literature.

I am an alcoholic and an addict and I am currently in recovery. In my honest opinion, alcohol is the WORST drug to be addicted to and the hardest to recover from.

Here are some facts about alcohol and alcohol addiction:

Alcohol and caffeine are the 2 most abused substances in the world.

Alcohol is the only drug you can die from quitting. Heavy drinkers, when quitting cold turkey, can suffer from severe withdrawal symptoms, including seizure, heart attack and death.

The incidence of alcohol consumption and related problems is increasing. Researchers have found that about 15% of the population in the United States are problem drinkers, and about 5-10% of male drinkers and 3-5% of female drinkers can be diagnosed as alcohol dependent. This means as many as 14 million persons are affected by alcoholism in the USA alone. These facts of alcoholism numbers do not include family, friends and others additionally affected by the actions of alcoholics.

Approximately 100,000 people die every year in America as a direct result of alcohol use/abuse. Approximately 10,000 people die every year in America as a result of all illegal and prescription drug use/abuse.

About 20% of teens are considered 'problem drinkers' in the U.S.

Most teens killed in car accidents die because someone involved was driving drunk.

Sudden abstinence by the chronic alcoholic produces a severe withdrawal syndrome–including tremors, vomiting, and convulsions resembling those of epilepsy–that is more likely to cause death than withdrawal from narcotic drugs. The final and most dangerous phase in this withdrawal pattern is delirium tremens, a toxic psychosis characterized by insomnia, hallucinations, seizures, and maniacal behavior. (The DTs suck... bad... I've gone through them more times than I can count)
Alcoholism is a factor in approximately 30% of all suicide deaths.

Liver cirrhosis is the 9th leading cause of deaths; each year 28,000 lives are lost to this disease.

Alcohol is EVERYWHERE. Stores, restaurants, bars, gas stations, mini-marts, etc. Alcohol is legal to purchase and possess. There are advertisements for alcohol everywhere. There are no advertisements selling meth. There is no Crack-n-Save next door to the Bob's Budget Liquor Barn.

Scary, huh!

You can't place a value on sin. One person may sin in their heart while another openly, the one may think they are better but their not, they both have sinned.
Each of these seek to suck the youth from your body and leaves you like a corpse when their done with you.
Get help now. This involves several venues simultaneously.
1. Get into a good rehab program and stay committed to it.
2. Ask a good friend to help hold you accountable to this
direction you've chosen to go and stay in frequent contact.
3. Get away from the crowd that you've done the drugs or
alcohol with and find some new ones. They'll only pull you
back into this lifestyle once again if you dont.
4. Finally, and most importantly, pray and seek God's
guidance and help in this process. He loves you and wants
your best as well, why not have Him in your corner as well,
I know for a fact He wants to be if you'll let Him.

I wish you the best, may the Lord give you strength in your endeavor.

there is no "one" type of addict. nor is there "one" reason why people get addicted. I was a "very nice young man" when I was little yet I became an alchoholic at age 10, smoked at age 12, drugs at 15. No abuse, just peer pressure. A bunch of kids with too much curiosity & time on our hands. We're all old now, some are still wallowing, some of us are now productive citizens. None got clean because of someone elses intervention although many tried. The one sthat managed to clean up have done so because some "thing" or other just clicked in our heads & made us feel like we needed to. We had to want to quit, not just say we wanted to. Maybe we just needed to realize that the thing we were hiding behind wasn't really real, just a fuzzy smokescreen. Wouldn't it be nice if there were easy answers to lifes problems.

Drug addiction is probably worse and more expensive than alcoholism. I don't know what kind of drugs that you are alluding to because you didn't give any details therefore I can't offer you a lot of help. Both are bad but the drug addiction is worse but both can kill your liver

They are both a big problem. They are both an addiction in the same way. For some its drugs, others alcohol. The disorder itself is exactlly the same just a different substance.

First off alcohol is a drug. It's all terrible on your body and life. They both lead to all types of loss (job, relationship, health, spirituality). It doesn't matter if whether or not the alcohol or drug is legal (prescription). It all has the same negative consequences. In the 12 step fellowships NA, AA, CA) it all leads to jail, institutions, and death. Consider impaired judgment, which leads to devastating decisions. Remember we all like to think we are unique and it won't happen to me.

This is really a hard one...i have a drug prob and my mom "is" a drinker. We both were wrong for what we did, but i can see now that I did **more** for my drug problem than she did for drinking! Seriously, I danced and really worked hard for a "20" !
When she would just sit around and wait for my daddy's check! lol but it's the damn truth!

so if were gonna do one vrs. the other ?
I take NONE!
I think they are equally bad!!
sorry :(

**marilyn**
I had to work and wanted to work to get high!
she just wanted to drink, drink, drink all she could.
i would take a few days off and she NEVER
took the day off!!
so really they are both bad, but that person has to stop for there own reasons...whatever that may be! kids, divorce, loss of job....whatever
one day they will deal with there problem they are hiding now.. I did.. and never thought I would..but you know it really made me a MUCH stronger person!!
So good luck!

Any thing that takes money out of your families pocket, causes you to lie and steal from your family and friends, will get you a prison sentence or land you in the morgue is bad.

Drugs are worse. Alchohol is ok in small amounts, Jesus himself gave people wine, but too much is just as bad -whatever health either does for you and drugs usually do worse.
