all you need is your US Passport. The only way to get a US Passport is to be a US citizen. If you don't have one, don't expect to leave the country and be let back in without some sort of proof from someone already here. Also, don't forget, some countries charge you for entering and leaving the country so have some cash with you. Less than a 100 should do it.

The passport laws have changed. As of January 1, 2007, you will need a passport to travel anywhere outside of the US, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, etc. But if you are driving to Canada or Mexico, you wont need one until Jan. 1, 2008.

If you are traveling before January, then yes, youll need a birth certificate and an ID I believe. But I recommend getting a passport anyway. It will take 4-6 weeks.
You can obtain a passport application from www.travel.state.gov Or go to your local post office.

No, you do not need a passport or birth certificate. Puerto Rico is a U.S. province therefore all puerto ricans are u.s. citizens and vice versa. travelling to and from is equal to travelling between states

The last time I checked you needed a Picture ID and Birth Certificate. But, things seem to be changing fairly fast. Eventually we may need Passports to travel across State lines in the USA. Just a thought.

my question is how are you going to have a valid state id devoid of being a US resident? to ensure that someone to have a US id and holiday the U. S. states you're immediately a US citizen. if you're a US citizen you in basic terms choose a image id to holiday to PR. when you're literally not a US resident then you definitely choose a passport and different indentifications alongside with a Social card and beginning cert. in basic terms in case someone asks you.

Nope your driver's license or another form of ID should do the trick. Unless you use your birth certificate as identification then i guess you would need it.
