Why is it that when someone tells you that there's billions of stars in the universe, you believe them. But if they tell you there's wet paint somewhere you have to touch it?

I guess it just human nature. I cant prove somebody wrong by telling them the Sun is the only star in the universe. But I can tell them if their shoelaces are untied.
People like to prove people wrong when they can.

It is a matter of impact.
Stars are so far away to have a personal touch.
Whereas, if you brush your new jacket against the wet paint - @#%&$#&%$#!!!! So you check the paint out.

cause i dont feel like counting to a billion to prove them wrong...i can just stick my hand out in the paint and find out for myself

i guess its kind of like reverse psycology. if u say to someone don't do they will and vice versa.
