A drop set is when you immediatly lighten the weight from your main set and do another set with the lighter weight immediatly.

Example:
Lets say you can D.B Bench Press 75lbs for 10reps(reaching failure on 10th rep) on your main set, you then would immediatly drop the weight to say 60lbs and immediatly resume another set. It's like two sets in one. Obviously if you did 2 drop sets you would drop the weight again down to 45lbs and do another set immediatly. It works pretty good but don't do it all the time. If you do you will need extra days of recovery.

Let's say you max out on a weight. You can no longer hold your form correctly. When you immediately "drop" down to a lighter weight and do as many reps as you can til your form falters again. "drop" down in weight again, and rep til you can;t. These are drop sets and pretty difficult actually.
