I read that the incubation period is from 23-25 days. The first egg was laid on July 31. So, its been 26 days since the first egg was laid but it has not been hatched. What's wrong?

Try candling the egg at night. Use a flashlight and hold each egg up to it. Since the time should be up, the egg should look dark. If it looks clear, the egg was infertile. Another thing, do the sniff test. If the eggs stink, throw them away. Make sure that a egg next to the stinky one isn't thrown away by mistake.
When you throw the bad eggs out, you might want to crack them open, as long as they don't stink, to see if the embryo started. If they are all clears, either you don't have a breeding pair, or maybe your birds are lacking something in their diet.

Once the bad eggs are removed, most birds will start up housekeeping again.

If they havent hatched yet then they are ready to pull and throw away. If you dont see your bird mating then they probly didnt. You can get a flash light after the eggs are laid and you wait about a week after they are laid to hold them up to the flash light to see if you see little red viens in the eggs, and if you dont see anything but the yellow yolk, then they are not fertile which is probly the males fault. A flashlight is easier then trying to figure how to candle a egg correctly. You may need a new male to mate your female with if this one isnt working for her.

If they only laid one egg, chances are it isn't a good egg. Lovebirds will usually lay clutches of up to 8 eggs. They hatch out in the order they are laid.

We usually wait 28-30 days before we take them away from the nest. Lots of things can and do go wrong...maybe they weren't fertilized...maybe they weren't kept warm enough...maybe you need to wait a few more days. She'll try again, I'm sure! Good luck!
