If popping things gave you arthritis chiropractors would be sued and out of business. I think the reason people say you will get arthritis is because being ABLE to pop certain parts of your body usually starts with an injury and scar tissue. So its not that cracking your knuckles or neck causes arthritis but the injury that allows you to do so is what down the road may cause arthritis.

I do the same thing. My Mom used to tell me cracking knuckles would lead to arthritis, but she hated the sound. I was told once as long as you pop your neck by moving your head from side to side, or front to back, it's okay. They said just don't do it in a circle, does bad things. And popping my back doesn't seem any different than doing those stretching exercises, so I don't see anything wrong with that either. So, 50 years and still poppin'.

Well, I certainly hope not, as I do this a dozen times a day or so, and my joints, particularly knees and ankles do the same thing and have for almost fifty years that I can recall, no signs of arthritis yet. My dad LOVED to crack his knuckles and died at age 80 with the nicest looking hands, not a hint of arthritis.
What dismays me is that modern medicine has studied this, determined that it does NOT lead to arthritic changes, yet apparently (according to one answerer above) an allegedly reputable men's magazine is publishing that it does. Not only is the author of the article lazy, so is the editorial staff of the magazine.

The results revealed no apparent connection between joint cracking and arthritis; however, habitual knuckle poppers did show signs of other types of damage, including soft tissue damage to the joint capsule.

any place like that is one of the first place arthritis is going set in when you're older. the more places that you have that crack and continue to do them daily, that's where it'll set in. won't be so cool later in life.

According to a recent issue of Men's Health, if you don't make it a habit, you are good to go. But if you do, you will have problems later on in life.

No, this is an old lie that parents told their kids to keep from cracking their knuckles and such because it was considered 'uncouth'. Keep on Cracking!
