At that point, he won't owe your mother or you, he'll owe the state, and they never forget. (it still goes to your mom tho) He could be 84 and still be paying it back, and get this, the state will add interest to the account every day that goes by where a payment, or at least a payment plan hasn't been made or arranged. Prime +1 in many states. Go to the courthouse that is nearest you, and talk to the clerk of courts. Get information on how to garnish his wages, and other earnings. In average you should be able to attain around 30-40% of his income that way, as long as you have a document from a judge, magistrate, or the child support agency stating that he owes you money. Its worth taking the day off work, tell her to go for it.

IF your mother filed with the state for Non-Payment of Child Support Enforcement Action, then NO -- the case will NOT be closed when you turn 18, as long as there is money still being owed by the DEADBEAT dad.

He will still owe the support so the state wont drop the order. He wont be charged after you turn 18 but he will still owe back support and you and your mom should continue to keep the court updated on your DEAD BEAT DAD.......

If your Dad hasn't paid child support in all these years, he could go to jail for contempt of court. Your Mother would have to press the issue and take him to court. He either pays up or goes to jail. It's that simple.

Go to a child support recovery place in your town or closet to you, if you go to college your dad will still have to pay child support until you are out of school.
