Or would it totally look like there's a veneer?

Just remember one very important thing, NO ONE should be able to tell a veneer, crown, bonding, from your other tech.If they can tell which tooth you have had work done on, then you have been to what us dental tech. call a shoe maker.I have seen people pay big money to have a gap closed or a front tooth capped or veneered, and it sticks out like a sore thumb. YOU SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SEE WHICH TOOTH YOU HAD WORK DONE ON.

As a dental assistant of twelve plus years, I would avoid veneers to close a space between the teeth. A less expensive procedure would be tooth colored filling material. I had it done my self between the upper two front teeth twenty years ago, and it still looks good! When a patient gets a veneer, it requires filing down the enamel of the front surface of that tooth. Removing actual tooth structure should be a last resort for cosmetic changes. When a veneer is placed, if not done perfectly, patients can have problems with it coming off, or saliva and bacteria getting underneath it causing future problems. If its just to cover a space, have you considered invisalign? Many dentists offer payment plans, and some insurances cover it. I would opt for the least invasive procedure if I were you. But to answer your question, a veneer on the front of the tooth does not change the back of it. : ) Veneers placed properly by a highly skilled dentist, look beautiful under the right circumstances.

I have veneers like that. The back looks (feels) normal... I can't see it...LOL.

But if I had it to do over again, I would have BONDING, not veneers. When they place a veneer, they grind down part of your natural tooth to put it on. It is sometimes bigger and whiter than the other teeth around it, so it doesn't look very natural. And it is very expensive ($500 per tooth I believe).

Bonding.... when done by a very qualified dentist... is much better, and much cheaper (more like $100 per tooth). They take dental material and build up the tooth with it, making it larger where it needs to fill in the space. It looks more natural because you can still see almost all of your natural tooth.

I too have had the tooth coloured filling added to my teeth, but I have very small teeth - less surface for the material to stick to. My add-ons have only lasted about 8 years each time. I am going to have to have them replaced again soon. From what I understand, veneers can last up to 30 years, and if done well, they can be perfectly matched to the colour of the tooth.

The only benefit so far to having the filling style has been that when I have insurance the replacement comes under replacement of fillings, so I pay nothing unlike cosmetic stuff that I have to pay for.

Big descision. Good Luck
