Is it our capitalist values, or our liberal attitudes towards sex etc? When did it first all kick off? Did we do anything directly to them? Is it because we dont believe in Allah?
Just for arguments sake...what would we have to do to reconcile with them? I just want to know there motives and aims. What are they trying to terrorise us to do?

I am muslim and i am sickened to read some of the comments being put here. It is very hard after reading the comments to keep a level head and not launch into an abusive rant.
Reading the answers, it looks as though the question you asked was why have westeners got it in for the muslims.
Such vile comments only succeed in marginalising muslims further.
I believe that muslims have an extremely small minority of crazy people just like the christians, jews and the rest of the world. Unfortunately, it is the actions of these crazy few which make it onto the media and is pumped out 24 hrs a day. I think that these few crazy people think they are fighting a holy war which is nonexistant. Islam has rules for war and does not allow killing of civilians. Any war which kills innocents is not an islamic war and can never be called as such.
I believe myself to be a true muslim and Islam does not condone the killing of innocent people. I have lived in peace all of my life. I dont have it in for westeners or anybody else. I beleive we are all brothers and sisters regardless of our race. I live in peace alongside christians and jews. Islam commands that we live in peace with christians and jews and respect their religion because christians and jews are our brothers and sisters. It is your own choice whether you believe in Allah or not and if you dont, Islam still does not condone "terrorism".
Islam is a beautiful religion and so as a true muslim, I hate liberal attitudes towards sex but this does not mean i can raise my hand against anybody. Rather, i try to distance myself from promiscuity, alcohol and inappropriate beviour. And this is what islam instructs you to do, not go around hurting people.
Some of these extreme muslims are very interesting to talk to. They are very difficult to agree with on anything and their interpretation of their faith is questionable at best. They are brainwashed into thinking they are a force of good, but no force of good kills innocent people. I do not consider such people to be in the fold of Islam. And neither should you.
It is interesting to note the wording of the question and i think it is a good example of how the media has us all so highly strung and gotten us into this mentality of "us and them" or the good guys and bad guys. It is very easy to get sucked up into all this but it is good to sometimes take a step back and realise that 99.99% of muslims are good honest people. If you ever doubt that, come and talk to me :-)

Simple. We're NOT "extreme" muslims/islamists. Whatever the moderate muslims say, islam wants world domination, by conversion and tacit approval if possible but by the gun if not.
The koran (and related works) suggest that when a moslem community is smaller than their neighbours, they should behave as good neighbours and "befriend" them, When they become powerful enough however, it is their duty to force their way of life and legal system (sharia) on everybody around them. Needless to say, they deny it - well what would anyone do? All you have to do is READ the koran and accept that, if it is the divine WORD OF GOD, then you have no choice but to obey every word no matter how repugnant and vile. If on the other hand, you accept that the book was written by a man and contained teachings for his time, some of which might be a good thing today, then you must reform the religion, cast out the cruelty and stupidity and retain that which is worth while.
As it is, with fundamentalists (of any religion) there is no way to convince them of anything except their own righteousness. They are psychotics of the most dangerous kind and, if they can't be educated, they must be eliminated in the same way as a mad dog.

Muslim cultures tend to be conservative, because their countries and way of life is built entirely around religion.

In our perspective, the West/Capitalist system envokes a system of freewill; however, in the Muslims' eyes, it is TOO freedom allowing.

Imagine a culture that doesn't oppose premarital sex, a culture that encourages people to ultimately regard money and material over wealth. Imagine, where there are drug dealers, and alcoholics, and rape, and adultery, all things that are FORBIDDEN and UNHEARD OF in Muslim nations.

And now imagine that the West begins to impose on the Muslim community their values, which are CONTRARY to what they believe in. It's only natural for them to have contempt towards such a contrasting culture from the West/Capitalist nations.

They hate us b/c we are the "infidels" their religion takes about. And for all you liberals out there, George Bush did not "make" these terrorists, nor is he making more. They've been around for 1,000 of years! Go back to the history books. They live in countries that oppress them and tell them it's the "big, old, bad" USA's fault their oppressed, while their leaders live in the lap of luxury. Remember the Americans who thought they were so much more "enlightened" than the rest of us Western warmongers and went over there to "protest" against their own country? They were placed in strategic places to be killed! Man, I can't understand Americans who have their heads in the sand!

The comment about "you can't kill women or children", come on, they set off their bombs with women and children around all the time!

Maybe you should be looking a little closer to home on this one! Firstly there was the US assisted set-up of Israel and its continued support for Israel even though they have commited the majority of the problems in the Middle East (recent news coverage included) and then the invasion of Iraq and Afganistan and the tampering with Muslim countries trying to make them westernised. I myself white from the UK believe that the majority of the extreme Muslims have disregard for western culture and I dont blame them in the slightest. Our (especially your) goverments need to stop persucting these people, stop supporting Israel in there illegal occupation of Lebanon and get a f***ing grip.

Muslims are for the most part, quiet and peaceful and just because they have different opinions, a different way of living they are generally a good bunch of kind hearted and respectful people. Our culture is trying to force our way of life on them - the shoe does not fit and nor will it ever.

That question was asked. We supported Israel when they wanted to inilate them and we stopped Hitler from exterminating the Jews.
They have this thing about Jews. As far as reconciling never going to happen. Hezbollah when asked said that there was this Jewish women who lived next to a Islamic women and that was enough reason to kill them. In the USA the point was nothing was going to make they happy with us. He pretty much said, Allah is going to killl all of; us infidels and that was the only solution. They won the war in the horn of Africa and then divided up into 3 Islamic fractions and continued the fighting.
Killing Millions of Africans durfur?
kidnapping 25,000 children to use as sex slaves. Chopping of arms and legs and heads. So it is kind of like in the old days when the Asrians won the war and used people's heads for a kick ball game. They asked this leader what do we have to do to make peace? He said everyone who is not Muslim has to die.
The whole world is to convert to muslim and not just any muslim either. Because there is a bunch of muslum who don't believe the others are saved. sunni, shiite, durse, kurds, kony in africa and two others and all those hate Hezbollah. So they just want everyone to die. Just read that if they are so against those things what about raping and using for sex little girls. 25,000 of them to be exact. torture and murder and chopping off arms and legs and beating women to death if their husbands says they were unfaithful. doesn't even have to be proven. they are brutal by anyones standards

Depends on exactly which extremists you are considering. Al-Qaeda wants to get rid of Western influences incl troop withdrawal from Arabia. But homegrown terrorists have wider aims incl world domination by Islam. A totally futile aim imo. Of course that also means that our western values such as democracy, fairness in our justice system, capitalism, lax sexual morals etc are anathema to them.

There are several things we have done, and are doing, to them.
First, most of the borders of their countries were set up by the British in order to define oil fields and group them conveniently.
Second, we have a horrible record of assassinating leaders, training special death squads, and installing Corporate-friendly jerks like Saddam Hussein and the Shah of Iran.
Third, we always vote with Israel at the UN, regardless of the consequences or morality of our favoritism.
Fourth, our media works hard to keep the public unaware of these activities while keeping people terrified and busy buying entertainment to keep from thinking about it. The average out-of-work Iraqi farmer knows more about what our country is doing than we do with all of our noise trinkets.

I say we need a council for religions. Almost like NATO, but diplomatic in all faiths and beliefs.
I ask as a brother(Christan) that we learn to understand one another and respect one anothers beliefs. Not force it upon one another, but learn from one another. For i like most wish for peace across the globe. So lets talk more instead of casting blame against another persons faith or beliefs. Even if someone has no beliefs in god we must respect that and pray that someday this shall change.
