You don't survive. You run up your bills, bankrupt then when you think you have paid off the bankruptcy your youngest son gets cancer. Not just any cancer but brain cancer. Ganglioglioma. Very rare. Wow, you did manage to get insurance though but wait. The insurance, Assurnet, tells you he's not covered because it's considered pre-existing condition.

Ok, now what......Childrens Hospital in New Orleans takes you and Ronald McDonald House puts you up. None of them want any money. Charity's come forward and help with phone cards and gas. Your son gets his operation then a freaking Hurricane Named Katrina comes to town. All your help and doctors leave. Fema rushes in. Help the helpless they say. Wait, isn't my kid helpless? No, he's white.

Well the waters subside and you get your son out of the hospital but where are all the doctors? They left. Where is the help? Gone too. Where is the city? Destroyed.

It's been almost a year and as you type this you are glad that somehow your son managed to recover. Now everyone is back in New Orleans. Do you know what they want from you? MONEY? Guess what? You don't have any. You can't bankrupt again and you can't get a job because you are now yourself an emotional wreck and your job was destroyed.

You love America but it's hopless. Everyday you get closer to eating that bullet.

You don't survive America.

I don't think I will.

You certainly have been suffering some tough times. Devasting in fact, but I also detect a bit of uninformed racist notions here too. All the evidence points to the fact that those who were more economically fortunate were able to escape New Orleans in advance of the hurricane. The fact was, the majority of blacks in the city did not fall into that category. There was no rush to save blacks over whites after the disaster struck. Everyone was ignored and underserved by Fema equally.
Everyone is not back in New Orleans. Many people have returned and there is much more work to be done. If you wish to be a part of that then return, if not file your Fema claim and wait in line like everyone else. In the meantime there are agencies that are distributing funds and relief for relocation. I know that is not optimal, but apply and avail yourself to all the opportunities that are out there.
In the meantime, don't associate your troubles with your locale. Your son could have gotten ill anyplace on the planet. Thank God for his recovery. Everyone has a story of peril and distress. It's called life.
Good luck to you and your family.

The United States of America is a very big country with lots of people with big hearts. Right now there are too many tragedies and too much devastation in New Orleans. For sanity and survival and a somewhat "normal" life you need to resettle somewhere else - somewhere that isn't overburdened with so many people that have lost everything. Start a new life in a new community with a new church new school and someday a new job.

Please don't give up, if not for you, for your child. You have been through alot, I can't imagine going though what you have been put through. Try to remember, this is temporary, try social services, tell them you want training for a job. do what it takes, as I said if not for your self then for your child, then you can begin to work on your self esteem. God bless you. Not a day goes by, that I am not thankful for what I have, and no, I have not had an easy life. Take one day at a time..... Cheers Bogey

Go to Crawford, Texas and camp out near Bush's ranch. If it got cindy sheehan national attention, it should do the same for you. Note: I didn't capitalize the letters of her name coz she's the next thing to a traitor. Her son would be ashamed of her!
