Yes they can kill them.Fleas are parasites they live on blood.Puppies MYTH #1:
FLEAS ARE A NUISANCE AT TIMES BUT THEY CAN’T BE DANGEROUS.

It is hard to imagine that something as tiny as a flea could be dangerous. We all know that fleas can make pets itch. Some of us are all too familiar with the spectacular skin inflammation in a flea-bite allergic pet but many people forget that fleas drink blood and that lots of fleas can drink lots of blood. The physical state of inadequate red blood cells is called: ANEMIA.

It is easy to under-estimate a pet’s infestation. Only animals allergic to flea bites will itch from their fleas. This means that the animal that is not allergic to flea bites will not be scratching or losing hair thus the owner may not realize that a heavy infestation active.

LOOK FOR FLEA DIRT

The black, pepper-like specks found in the infested pet’s coat are actually bits of blood that have been sucked by the flea and excreted in a neat little package to feed the larval fleas that hatch in the environment. Even if live fleas are not seen, the presence of flea dirt means that live fleas are there.

WHO ARE THE VICTIMS?

It takes a lot of fleas to produce enough blood loss to create a life-threatening situation for the host pet but it still happens commonly. The following situations are high-risk for flea anemia:

Very young kittens being raised outdoors or by a mother cat who goes outdoors. Young kittens are very small and do not have blood to spare. Further, they are growing and trying to expand their blood volume; they are too young to effectively groom themselves and remove their own fleas. Flea anemia is probably the #1 cause of death in open household kittens.

.

puppies. Their situation is similar to that of the kittens’. Too small to effectively groom and trying to grow in the face of on going blood loss.

Eventually, the weakness catches up with these animals and they will die.

Fleas feed off blood having the mother and the puppies crawling with fleas is dangerous to their health-since the puppies are only 2 weeks old -the flea products uyou can buy are too strong and can kill them. The best thing would be to take the mother and the puppies to a Veterinarian who will know a safe way to get rid of the fleas-the mother is nursing and needs all her blood or else she will get weak and so will her milk supply which will also put the puppies at a health risk. Once they are cleaned off the fleas-destroy the bedding-can't spray with flea spray because the toxin can go through skin into the puppies-give them new bedding-you can spray the area where the mother and the puppies sleep with vinegar-make sure its dry before you allow Mom and puppies to sleep on it- the Vet can provide you with monthly Flea medicine name that is applied beween the shoulder blades on the dog-the MOTHER ONLY for the puppies have to be at least 7-8 weeks before ANY flea product is used on them. You can get Brewers Yeast Supplement-Vet or any petfood store that you mix approx 1/2teaspoon or follow directions into the Mother's dogfood-Can also get Brewers Yeast with Garlic-the fleas do not like the taste and will not stay on the Mother and since the puppies nurse some will get in their system with the milk-Braewers Yeast is also very good for the mother or any dog' health. Do Not Put ANY Flea stuff on the puppies. Hope you follow my advice-if you are a kid show to your paraents and make them take the momma and the puppies to a vet-offer to some chores for them in return. Good Luck

Actually yes, they can--a huge flea infestation can make a baby pup anemic which can cause all sorts of problems.
Unfortunately, they are really too little to use any flea control yet--the best is elbow grease and a flea comb. Just be very gentle and dunk the comb in soapy water to drown the fleas. Do a little each day till you have gotten as many fleas as you can, and as soon as they reach about 6 weeks you can use a topical product such as frontline or biospot.
Don't forget to treat their mom, too!

I would call the vet and ask.

I was lucky and found a real good vet in town (after going to the other 3 before) and these people are wonderful. They tell you upfront and they don't try to get you extra things you don't need.

All the puppies I have had I have gotten at 6 weeks and 4 weeks, and they ahd the flea meds put on by the vet. I know about 2 weeks.

God Bless

Fleas can be VERY harmful to puppies. Call your vet to see what to use on the pups and mom. You can bathe mom using a mild dish soap to help control fleas until you can contact your vet. You can also use a wet washcloth on the pups, no soap and rub gently. This will not get rid of all of the fleas but may slow them down.

Are Fleas Dangerous

A large flea infestation can cause anemic blood loss in small dogs, especially ones that young. You could treat the mother dog, but I'd consult your vet just to be safe. DON'T put K9 Advantix on puppies younger than 6 weeks of age!

Yes!! Fleas can KILL a puppy, without a doubt! You also have to worry about worms as well.

Check with your vet, asap! They have meds that are safe for very young pups (Most meds are far too dangerous for babies) and meds that are safe for nursing moms.

You also MUST treat the area as well....just because you treat the pups and mom, there are still fleas and eggs in the area.

Best of luck!
