There is a lot you can do. Check your birth certificate if you don't have his name. Check your parents Marriage certificate to verify this is your father. Check with your mother for any information she can give you. Check for a death certificate for your father. Check any known other family members for information. For further information you can contact me direct. I am a Genealogist and there is much that can be done. Get a message to me and I will give you my e-mail address. (PLEASE SEND FULL E-MAIL ADDRESS FOR REPLIES FROM ME) Good luck

That's one you need to start with you mom she needs to give you some info such as name age where he was from how they meet any family on his side grandparents sisters and brothers. You can find out if he has passed by the social security cd's of Death records, If he is gone you may also find his birth date and his last residence city on those cd's. That's a start.

Some Q have no good answers. I have two things you can try if you are in the USA.

Go to

http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi

If he is on there, he is dead. If he isn't there, he may be dead anyway, just not listed. If you know his birth year, click on "Advanced" to use it.

If you have his SSN, the SSA will forward a letter to him:

http://www.ssa.gov/foia/html/ltrfwding.htm

His address with them may be false, and he may not answer the letter.

If you are outside the USA, please say so when you post.

You might be able to find him on www.zabasearch.com. It is a search engine for people. If you know his name, and the state he lives in, you may be able to find him. Good luck.

if you know his full name and where he was born or living when he was eligible for social security, you can go on the social security death benefits page to find if he is still living. type on google social security death benefits, then his name. if he is still living, there will be no death benefits.
