Ok if I bought a big bottle of jack daniels and had a couple drinks, if I set the bottle in the cupboard how long would it stay good after it has been opened? Does alcohol ever go bad?

Alcohol doesn't "go bad" they vegetables will, but that doesn't mean that it'll stay around forever.

Alcohol is a volatile substance, meaning that it readily evaporates. Water does too. The longer a bottle is open and undrunk, the more of it will evaporate, and as the ingredients will evaporate at different rates, this will change the flavor somewhat. The strength will also go down.

Wine is a whole different ball of wax. White wine needs to be drunk within a few years, but reds can age gracefully up to a century and more, provided they're worth a damn. But past a certain point, the taste goes down, and eventually you're left with vinegar. It's a dicey thing. Once opened, a bottle of wine needs to be drunk within a day, two at the most, or it'll get sour. Hard liquor doesn't work this way, as long as you keep it closed.

Beer does spoil, as it tends to have far more in it than either wine or liquor.

But your bottle of Jack should be good for years. One of the best bottles of whiskey I ever tasted was some no-name unopened bottle I inherited when an elderly relative died. Thing must have been 30 years old. Damn, that was smooth. But had it been opened, it would have probably been no better than colored water, and potentially a lot worse.

Alcohol lasts forever. Beer will get stale. The bottle of Jack Daniels will be fine just keep the lid tight on it

I have been over to my parents house and have found alcohol that was open but not much was taken out of it. It was all crusty on the inside. Im guessing that it would go bad but, but i think that it had been opened like a year before. As for a short timeframe, I dont think it would go bad.

I opened a bottle of Amaretto that was from 1974 and it was about half empty. I opened it last year and had a shot of it and it was the best amaretto I had ever had. So it doesnt really go bad, but beer definately goes bad.

Some alcohols do, mainly beer. Wine will get better with age, to a point then it goes down hill. JD souldn't, but if it tastes a little stale, pour some into a decanter.

Liquor strong enough to stay sterile as long as sealed and can't evaporate (alcohol will evap before water, so will get weaker if exposed to air). Beer gets stale and can mold. Wine can eventually turn to vinegar.

Alcohol never can't go bad, but it could get stale.

I don't drink alcohol, but I believe it preserves itself.
