Just tell him that, maybe you can still go on the date just with the understanding that you are not in that "place" right now. Doesn't mean you will not be in the future and you aren't really turning him down. Pay your way and have a good time, never know you he just might be the guy to get you in that "place"!

Just be honest. Tell him you've got other issues in your life right now and don't feel that it's an appropriate time to start seeing someone special. At that point (just in case he wants to try the "friends w/ benefits" thing), you may want to let him know that you don't have the time or desire to take part in a casual sexual relationship. You both deserve better than that. Good luck!

Just call him and tell him that you are sorry to cancel but something has come up. Tell him that you have a family event that you had forgotten about or a work-related event or you could just tell him the truth and keep it real with him.

Tell him you're not in the right place in a lot of ways right now. If he's understanding, if he's someone that is understanding and considerate, he'll be ok with it. If he makes a fuss or gets aggrivated, then you know he overreacts.

Well tell the person who your going with that you don't want to go on a date with him in the nicest way you can.Or just say at the last minute something came up and you want to cancel.And you just want to be friends.

Call him and be honest and tell him the truth how you feel. He may be disappointed or hurt, but its better that leading him on. and I think he will respect you more. Who knows, maybe down the line when your feeling stronger or better you can go out.

Talk to him and say that day jus isnt workn for you, lie or sumthin and then. set any day, but dont make it officail. just say . o in 2 wks itd b fine. n well make sure u dont put a specific day. n ull b fine

you cant it is a binding verbal agreement.
cmon just tell him the truth. hes gonna be hurt nomatter what u say. if you lie you will get caught.
