Because they are Americans--

Have you ever looked at the GRE scores for engineers versus teachers who attend top graduate schools? There is a 200 point difference!

Perhaps the smart people who want to teach become professors.

The fact that half of the population is taught by people of mediocre intelligence may be part of your answer.

My daughter had a teacher with a master's degree from UCLA, a top university. I'm not a wonderful writer, but I couldn't help notice that the teacher's first letter to the parents contained 22 errors and weaknesses. I felt very ill at ease going over her letter with her and giving her Internet web sites that would help her brush up on her grammar. She went to the director who also can not write or speak correctly. I then had a two hour heated meeting with the director. My daughter recently took a standardized test. She did well in everything but writing and I hired a writing tutor. The upshot of all of this is that schools are going to protect their territory even when they are failing our students. It comes as no surprise to me that the government has set educational standards.

A fellow on television was describing the difference between China and the United States. He said that Bill Gates is the Britney Spears of China. The problem is that in the United States, Britney Spears is Britney Spears. If Americans prefer being cool and trendy to being intelligent and innovative, then stupid is what you are going to find.

Fortunately, the U.S. has the best universities and there is no shortage of well-prepared students vying for admission.

We are a nation of over medicated, obese, and dumbed down people with a tyrannical government. There are too many people who accept authority simply because it's labeled authority.

I think that people are trained to be meek and passive from childhood.

Maybe not so much stupidity as laziness and an unwillingness to use their voices for fear of stepping on others toes.

If you think about it are you not part of the general public at times?

Marketing and religion, I'm quite sure! Not many people are interested in thinking for themselves, and these two indoctrinations assure that most of us will refrain from developing healthy, informed decisions.

They're lazy--even when they go to college, they don't want to learn, they just want a job!
