I'm looking at a weight lifting program and it says that you're supposed to do "3 sets 12,8,6 reps descending of each exercise
". Would that be 1 set of 12, after that a set of 8, then 6? (I think so, but just making sure.)

Do your first set of 12..........rest your muscle for 60 seconds then start your next set - rest 60 seconds then do your last set. Mind you when I did Body For Life it was 12, 10, 8 and 6 Also always keep the muscle working during the set.

that is exactly what that means. You can also gradually increase the weight as you decrease the reps. Example -- 1 set of 12 at 50lbs, 1 set of 8 at 60 lbs, 1 set of 6 at 70lbs, and so on.
