Teach your old dog to be nice to your new one, and give him treats when he obeys. Eventually he will learn that this new puppy is to stay. Do they share the same food bowl? Well maybe that's the reason your old dog was mad. Make sure that they have seperate food bowls, because that's probably one of the reasons your old dog might be barking. Another good thing to do is feed your old dog first, if you haven't. That might be another reason. Try to keep the dogs a bit of a distance away during feeding time, and I'm sure you will be OK. :-)

Feed them separated from each other. Never leave them alone in the same room with food, treats or bones. Your old dog is probably ok with you around her food, but she's not with the pup.

After a few run-ins at meal time, your pup will respect the old dog's space when eating. But until that happens you must supervise meal time.

You may never have the peace of mind that they will eat together, working towards that goal may or may not happen. Has your older dog ever shown food aggression towards another animal? If so, chances are that's just how she is and will remain. So be smart and keep them apart when they eat.

My oldest dog is very food aggression towards my other dogs, but I can literally take food out of her mouth. Knowing this since she was a pup, they each have their own place in the kitchen to eat from and mealtime is peaceful.

Are you feeding the puppy before you feed your older dog? That would be a cause of it. Your older dog is feeling cheated or less loved. You'll need to give love and attention to your older dog while you feed the puppy. Also, have you ever tried to take your older dogs food away while it's eating in general? That is a sign it's being aggressive...and I used to put my hand in my dog's bowl in the early years to avoid that behavior. They need to know you are the boss and you wont tolerate it!.

Good luck with that!

Bring the puppy into the room every time you feed the big dog, but don't let it eat there. Feed the puppy in another room. Every time you bring the puppy near the dog, give the dog a special treat.

I think Your old dog thinks he is getting replaced by a new dog and that the new dog is takeing over everything and including you. So spend a little bit more time with your old dog for like an hour and 30 minutes to make he/her happy. and problem solved and spend an hour and 30 mins with the new puppy too.

feed the dogs at different times or give ur other dog a smack and a stern no when she barks at the other dog. she probly feels the puppy is going to get all the food and she won't get any.

It is best to feed them seperately at the beginning, if your old dog doesnt bite or try to attack the new one, it shouldn't have much problems. If it bite or try to attack the new dog, put her on the ground with belly up and make her stay and submissive in front of you and your new dog.

your old dog is probably mean to your puppy because the old dog feels threatened or because you give the puppy more attention than him its just like if you have a new baby your older kid sometimes will get jealous beacuse you give the baby more attention
i think that if you give both your pets equal atention then i your dog will get used to the new puppy

My mom brought in a new little puppy *****, she's wants my breakfast and dinner so mommy puts her in the crate to eat so that she stay's away from MY bowl. We've had her for over a year now and she still eats in the crate. Other than that, she's O.K. for a girl. Cheers, Bogey

well, the older dog is letting the puppy know who's the "alpha" or lead dog. always happens when there is more than one.
you probably should feed them separately or the older one first. it takes time & much patience.
