Hey, I am 17 years old, almost 18, and on my way to my Senior Year at High school. During my Junior Year, I had a diffucult time thinking while I i was studying or taking a test, or even in the middle of a class. When it gets quiet, my Mind just drifts off into a meaningless chain of thought... until there is a significant amout of noise that gets me out of it. This also happens when I'm thinking. I failed most of my classes this way, and lowered my GPA terribly.
I read things about ADD and ADHD, I am not sure which I have, because I just can't pay attention to anything anymore... Am I not eating right? Am I not excersising enough? Am I thinking too much? I am at my wits end, and i need to concentrate this Senior Year to get into the college I want!
Thnx fo any Suggesstions or Advice, my AIM Screen name is: Odds of Error, I don't use Yahoo Messenger :( Thnx

It sounds like a possibility but the only way to know for sure is to see your Dr and he can send you to see a psychologist or someone who kows anout these things. I was told I have this, but I dont know that its ever possible to know for sure.
Definitely your lack of ability to pay attention could be a sign of it. There are also other things that can cause a lack of attention. Are you depressed? That can cause a lack of focus and make it hard to concentrate. So can anxiety, if you are worried alot and that makes it hard to keep your minds on other things.
Besides having a hard time paying attention, do you have any other symptoms. Typically with ADHD you are either hyperactive or else the inattentive type. Do you frequently finish peoples sentences, do you find it almost impossible to organize yourself, what about reading? Are you able to concentrate when you read a book for example? Look on the website and try one of the reputable websites for more information, they even have some prescreening tests. I beleive that http://www.adders.org/ or http://www.chadd.org might be some of the better ones.
Theres lots of information out there, not all of it good, its easy to convince yourself that you have someone that you dont as well. The only way for sure would be to see someone that specializes in this. If you do have it, it may make your life more difficult but its not the end of the world, tons of people do and lots are successful

Over stimulation of the mind can contribute to this by drinking too much caffeine in the morning, high sugar breakfasts, or metabolic imbalances.
Sometimes stress can contribute if there is high pressure at home to succeed or relational issues that distract you from your focus.
Make a short list a things that might contribute to this anomoly and take the easier path initially. You can go in for blood tests later if the problem persists.

Ok ADD is what it sounds like you have, ADHD is almost the same thing but the H stands for hyperactive which meens your really jumping constantly doing diffrent things like for example your studying all of a sudden your like OH BUTTERFLY watch that for 3 seconds the OHHH SPECKLE OF DUSt then you notice your constantly moving while doing this. I would just go to a basic physician and tell him that you have trouble focusing it can also be related to high stress intake.

ADD/ADHD are one and the same. You can go to your doc for a referral to a psychologist or psychiatrist to get tested. You could also be dyslexic. Dyslexics have trouble processing information, from reading comprehension to figuring nonverbal cues. The inability to process information maybe what is driving your distraction.
Or you could just be bored and are thinking of where you would rather be.

See a medical doctor and have a whole battery of tests run. If that turns out negative, try ADHD meds (might need a psychiatrist for that but the doc can advise you).

You could see a psychologist to be test for ADD, but this usually shows itself in early childhood as well. I suggest simply cracking down, learning some new study skills, and maybe form a study group to help teach you to focus. GL

Check with your doctor to make sure, but that sounds more like ADD--unless, of course, you're bouncing off the walls. It's also possible you just have senioritis. When you're about to graduate you tend to have this mindset of, "I just want out of here," which can make it so you just don't care.

Are you also feeling tired? Do you sleep a lot? If you have these symptoms, too, you could be either low in thyroid medication or slightly depressed.
