there is plenty of evidence of there being a god.
you are able to walk, talk, think, feel, etc
day turns to night and night to day
the sun rises in the east everyday and sets in the west
the rain falls from the sky to nourish the land
the earth has life, it allows plants, trees, flowers, vegetables to grow
is that not enough evidence for you?

I'll ask you a question or two:
We know scientifically that it is impossible to create something from nothing. If something is created (like the universe) then there must be a creator. If there was a "big bang", then something had to make the BANG. What created the bang or the universe or the...well, "everything" since it's impossible to have something come from nothing.
Another question: Think of someone you love...a mom or dad....wife....whomever....Got one? good...Ok...now, how would you prove that you loved this person? If you really love this person. Prove it.
Whether or not God exists is one of the oldest questions, and the easiest to answer if you don't let your self pride (the fear of being wrong and being able to admit it) get in the way. There are miracles happening in the world today that nobody, no scientist can explain. I can tell you about them if you like...But do you really want to know?
NOTE ADDED 8/27/06:
Some have said that it's easy enough to doubt the existance of God because there are no pictures. Nobody has "seen" him. Geesh folks...try to THINK before you start regurgitating some of this...this one is too easy....
Have you ever seen the mariana trench? It's the deepest point in the ocean....Have you ever seen it? No? Then how do you know it exists? Just because other people have seen it? You're taking there word for it? On faith? Hmmm.....well, if you've never seen it, it must not exist.....?
How about this one....have you ever seen your own thoughts? Do they exist? It doesn't sound like it...
Have a nice day...

I used to be athiest, then I became agnostic - but these days I'm veering towards being a gnostic. This means that to some degree I believe in God, but I feel that he is completely outside of our comprehension, and that humanity will never, ever know whether or not he's real.
I do feel that there could be an intelligent thought process somewhere - but that doesn't mean that he/she/it has any interest in us or any interaction in our lives. So I'm not religious, and I don't believe in the bible.
As to why some people believe - well, it's not because they know more than the rest of us - it's simply a matter of faith. Personally, I think they believe because they want to - but that is only my opinion.

I believe in God, and I know that He existed long before anyone else, because He is my Creator and my Maker. Had it not been for Jesus dieing on the cross for your sins and mine to buy us back with His blood, you would not be living in a world where there is free will, where there is mercy and grace and forgiveness. You have a choice whether or not to believe. But His existence is very real. Read the Bible on a daily basis, and I can assure you the HOly Spirit will be working in you, and verses in the Bible will pop out at you, ( God's timing is so awesome, because those verses that do pop out at you, take in some wonderful meaning in your life to help you through what ever is happening in your life. If your thinking is that there is no God, let me just say, that's living proof, the devil is at your doorstep telling you to believe that. There's a choice you have, after death in this world you go to another, which one do you want to go to heaven or hell?

Many beliefs and concepts -- especially the 'being' part -- related to god are all projections of people's developing thought systems: the afterlife concept develops and becomes part of the mythology of god; the idea of judgment, sin, guilt, reward, etc. develops and becomes part of god; etc. Is there anything beyond these set of beliefs/concepts? Only one way to resolve the issue - have a direct experience where the self (and all the concepts associated with it) drops away. Everythnig else is just speculation, concepts, etc (even agnosticism and atheism deal in the perceptual, conceptual realm -- forget all concepts and go for a direct experience). For a good perspective from Zen, read '3 Pillars of Zen' (it's the best book out there that shows snippets of real enlightenment experiences).

I agree mate i think right from the "virgin birth" yeah right, that this was just an elaborate tale started in those days to entertain children and a way of probably changing the subject of things that were seen as un-speakable! in those days. Like you can walk on water! We have to much technology now a days and no ones done that yet oh unless Jesus had a pair of water ski's? Or he was stood on a sand bank an looking from the shore it looked to people like he was stood on the water? Coming back from the dead well apart from in spirit ( i do watch most haunted!) we all no that's not happening. Back to the virgin birth well Mary clearly had a little affair and she wasn't gonna tell Joseph about it, No she would have probably been beheaded in them days,so she told a little white lie and said this Almighty thing called "god" had in-pregnated her and Joseph couldn't do anything coz, oh that's right you can't actually see him!!(but he's all around) yeah yeah
There's to many thing's for me to list but have enjoyed answering write more tomorrow good night!

Well yes Virginia there is a God. And Yes there are billions of people who have believed in God! The evidence that I could give you is that you are the evidence! You are unique in every way. There is no one like you on this planet, no one acts like you, for you have personality, you show design, your body is a mechanical feat of engineering that even modern scientists cannot make. You have distinctiveness. You have presence, you have individuality, you have time and place - meaning that when you are gone there will never be any one like you ever again! Tell me know was that by complete randomness or were you created by God for purpose to prove that He exists and that you exist for Him!

I think the strongest influence is family. Look at the Bible Belt in America. Islam in Indonesia (highest concentration of muslims). We believe the people and leaders who are closest to us.
Another influence is this belief in miracles. Blurry images of the Virgin Mary, or whoever your prophet is. Miracle healers. Exorcism. These beliefs go back centuries because they are traditions passed from generation to generation. To refuse to believe is equal to ostracizing oneself from your family, neighbors or friends. Of all the people who actually identify as religious, I seriously doubt that many went through a long investigative process into the merits of their religious affiliation.
People also dont see anything to lose from believing in God. If they think God doesn't exist, they might go to Hell. If they think God does exist, they will probably go to Heaven. Or at least thats what the holy books and preachers of the different religions will say.
I know lots of people who do believe in God, including family and friends. I don't try to change their mind, until they try to change mines. There are some people close to me I know who think I believe in God; and so I just nod my head and pretend I do. There are some people I just dont have the heart to tell. But there are some curious enough to question it and ask me.

i'm sorry you had undesirable stories with some atheists. I assure you, maximum human beings do no longer care. i do no longer care what you suspect, yet you won't have the capacity to cajole me that the supernatural exists without sturdy evidence. The "evidence" you noted could be rather defined, yet there is no longer something incorrect with you believing that as long as you do no longer carry it against me for no longer believing. Edit: ok. If all of us makes a imprecise adequate "prophecy" it is going to possibly come real faster or later in time. a man or woman with brown pores and skin healing you is imprecise adequate and the probability of that occuring is quite severe, whether you reside in a frequently-white society like the u . s .. toddlers with "previous lives" are nonetheless toddlers, and childrens have energetic imaginations. Your enlightenment develop into in view which you relatively believed in what you have been instructed. ultimately, there are multiple con human beings accessible who could make it look like they understand some thing supernaturally while that they had different methods of having the records before.

People believe in God because everyone needs to believe in something. A life without belief can be a very scary place to be. I don't think it really matters what u put your trust in, it should be yourself but I personally envy those who do believe in God, Don't you think it would be nice to think there's someone up there keeping an eye on you all the time? And when your time comes he'll be there to welcome you with open arms? Live and let live.... you can't see air but you know it exsists

Why do people believe in God... 101 & more reasons!!!
Is there any evidence that there is such a being? ...
‘Yes’: more than enough... for those who have the faith’ and take the choice to ‘Choose’: to believe!!!
It was 'Religion' that was invented/created in the Pit of Hell... not God!!! God is real... and will show himself real: to all who truly seek Him!!
