Hey everyone. I'm a Christian, and I know this has been asked before, but I'm kinda curious about how Christians feel about cursing? I don't curse usually, but at times I blurt out a few words, that aren't too extreme (ie. "What the hell?" "Dammit!") That's all I say, and I know u all prob think that's nothing, but how do u all feel about this? A few Christians that are true to God will say things like this, and are perfectly fine w/ it. Tyler Perry and his character, Madea (those who are familiar), always say these small curses and he's a saved Christian man. I know this is trivial, but I was just wondering how u feel. I'm not talking about words like F you, just the words that I've mentioned. How might this look on you, as a Christian? Thanks and God bless

It really depends on the individual christian's beliefs. More conservative Christians would believe that "what the hell?" and "dammit!" are definitely out of line. I actually attended a Christian school where saying "crap" could get you sent to the principal. Personally, I think that sometimes I need to use strong words to get my point across, but I do avoid using certain words if I know that they'll offend the other person, when I'm around children, or if I'm in a professional setting.

Obscenities and other kinds of foul language have become so common today that many people hardly give them a second thought. And yet the Bible is clear: "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths. ... Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking" (Ephesians 4:29; 5:4).
Why does the Bible say this? The main reason is because that kind of language doesn't honor God. In fact, it dishonors Him by using His name in a casual or blasphemous way, and by degrading other people—people whom He loves. That's why one of the Ten Commandments declares, "You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God" (Exodus 20:7). If you have given your life to Jesus Christ, your goal should be to honor Him in everything you do—including your speech.
Commit your tongue to the Lord, and ask Him to help you overcome this habit from the past. Ask Him also to fill your mind—and your speech—with what is good. Remember: What we say is a reflection of what we think. The Bible says, "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Romans 12:2).

Bad language is not a Christian trait.
Col 3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
Eph 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
Eph 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
Eph 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
Notice Eph 5:4 mentions finger throwing--------
Eph 5:4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

I'm not a Christian but I am a theist. (There are other believers besides Christians, btw.) I do curse, and I'm not so embarrassed about it. I say it all, but it's not every other word. Once upon a long time ago I never cursed, but that was when I was but a teenage sprout. Now, I'm a rugged wooden smart*ss, hehe!

cursing... cursing goes back staight to the evil one... in the end of times... the beast will have all sorts of horrible curse words against God... curses are meant to harm, to spiritually kill someone. they were made out of anger and were brought into Satans world, which is the one we live in. it is alright if this world hates you because then u know ur doing what is right. i swear too, and i am trying to stop because you can just tell its evil by the feeling u have when u say it

Cuss words are not the same as curses. Cuss words are just poor language, curse words are for putting spite on someone and taking the lords name in vain is a sin. get it right!

The Bible says: "Let a rotten saying not proceed out of your mouth." Cursing and swearing should not be done by someone who calls themself a Christian.

Depends on were its being used. If I'm with family i don't say it, it shows low class. But when I'm with my fellow brothers (the marines) ill curse like a sailor. Y? I don't know, there if you curse it doesn't show low class, its like a different society entirely.

Well, in my beleif, it's more or less since they were just muttered and now projected AT someone, then it's not that bad.
If you tell some to go to hell....or damn them....not cool.
But if you hit your hand with a hammer and say "Ahhhh dammit!" then I think it would be forgiven. ;)
