Many television programs like Dora are educational for your children to watch and there is nothing wrong with that. Your daughter learned her shapes from Dora and that is a good thing! The downside is some of the shows that come on after Dora does like those big colorful blimp looking things called "Boobas" because all they say is "Booba" the entire show and it is very uneducational, if I do say so myself.
If you have a television provider where you can have the TV turn off at a certain time, do that so this way your daughter wont see the stupid crap these people call a show.

Most definitely children can learn from watching TV. Disney channel, ABC Family, Nickelodeon and PBS (Sesame Street, Electric Company) are all excellent for their children educational programs. Dora is exceptionally good as your daughter will probably learn some Spanish. With the stations cited above, along with proper parental guidance/supervision, there shouldn't be any downsides to watching educational programming.

I'm gonna have to say that Dora, and Blue's Clues are pretty good for kids to watch and to learn from. I watch Blue's Clues with my daughter and when Steve, or Joe ask a question we answer back. I think as long as she interacts or gets excited when they find another clue shes not being a zombie. I also like the Doodlebops and the Wiggles. Their songs are great, and we like to sing them latter in the day. The only thing is the tv shows like the boobah's, and the telitubies, where they don't teach real talking, or learning. They just run around chasing rabbits, and carrying "man bags" around. I think if you know what shes watching its ok. Maybe watch an episode with her one day to see for yourself.

Of course that they can, but if she watches Dora there's nothing to worry about, the commercials on the Channels that give Dora can't b bad. I grew up watching TV, and I'm a Punk rocker, that's the best decision that ur daugther can make. Lol

My daughter learns a LOT from T.V. shows. Heck thanks to Dora and Diego she can count to 20 in english AND spanish and knows her colors. She also says lots of words in spanish too. She can tell me what a humpback whale says along with other animals like a scarlett macaw and a puma.As long as it's GOOD t.v. it's ok for her to watch. Most Nick Jr. shows are learning shows and kids LOVE them. She is learning and she'll continue to. All TV isn't evil.

T.V. is great for kids, if they watch the right programs. Kids learn no matter what they are listening to or watching that's what they do. Outside is good too I really think the T.V. did help teach the colors and shapes etc. Relax being a mom is hard enough give yourself a break your probley doing a great job with your kids. good luck :)

We are affected by media all the time whether they are bad or good.
Sure, children can learn from TV, but more bad than good. Of course, if you restrict one show. it will not harm the child. However, sooner or later, children will want to explore more.. like Dora the explorer....
They want to watch more and different variety of shows!

Let the dam kid watch watever she wants! For the first couple years, all they want to watch is Nick JR, wich is great cause its fun, but seceretlly educational. heres my idea.
Make sure the kid has playtime every day, but you can let the kid watch up to 3 hours with no downside. here are the possible downsides that you wont see for a while
1. the kid will get lazy if you dont make sure she has playtime
2. the kid will startt wanting to watch.... less educational shows, and thats fine once she starts school but not too much

back when i was growing up, there was no educational tv. now there is variety of shows that teach children all kinds of things. my son is 10 months old and very active. the only thing that keeps his attention for more than 2 seconds are the baby einstein videos. at first i thought it was really bad, letting him watch tv, but then i figured that he might actually be learning something.
