First baby averages something like 41 weeks. Whatever man decided to make 40 weeks the due date did a disservice to womankind, IMO. My first midwife advised me to think that the baby was due at the 43 week mark so I could kind of trick myself.
Did you know the baby puts out a hormone to start labor? (well, usually). Don't rush it. drink TONS OF WATER and eat good nutrition high protein foods to fuel your baby's good growth and keep yourself healthy. Try taking an epsom salt bath to relax (really it's great and might help stave off swelling).
Avoid induction for the doctor's convenience. If your doctor is worried about size, find a midwife who can actually empower you and knows how to help women give birth.

Sorry, but usually so, but not just because it is a first baby, just because babies will come when they want. I was only 40 weeks and one day with my daughter (I rode a bike until I was 39.5 weeks pregnant and I walked for the last of the pregnancy). I was my mom's first baby and I was over two weeks late, I was due late August and I was born September 9th (almost two weeks late). LOL! Just get to walking, no guarentee you will go into labor (I tried everything, believe me) but it may help speed things along!

You aren't overdue yet. Yes you are miserable but you choose to be pregnant forcing your child to come before it is ready isn't always what is best for your baby. Learn some patience and wait. I had one come early, one on time, one late and one a month late.
And besides, do you know your date of conception for sure. Your baby may not be here because of miscalculation.

this is just my opinion, but I don't think there's any such thing as "overdue" when the apple is ripe, it will fall off the tree, the way God intended. I understand the restlessness, though, my son was almost 3 weeks "overdue" according to the charts. my son, had other ideas. He weighed 9lbs 2 oz. BIG baby boy.

A due date is really just a 4 week period in which it is safest to deliver a baby. anywhere from 38 - 42 weeks from the first day of your last period. I don't think it matters whether or not it is your first.
Sex, with orgasm, may help. Orgasm causes uteran contractions, and sperm contains ptocin, which is what they use to induce labor.
Good luck and congratulation!

Everyone is different. I gave birth at 39 weeks with my first and only child. My sister in law was 10 day late with her child, so it just depend on the person, the pregnancy and that baby.

Hi am currently 37 weeks, and my doctor says generally first time mothers do go to or over their expected due date. I know it sucks. I am so ready. I am not dialated but am 70% effaced. Let me know how everything goes.

Yes. I had mine after my due date. They enduced my labor on the day i was due and she was born the next day. so yes it is likely. UMM, there are a few ways to hurry your labor though. Not being rude, but if you have sex it will help. uh, if you take a hot bath, and you can eat spicy foods. those are supposed to help. they didn't tell me that until after my baby was born. so if you wanna make it go quicker then you can try those things.

You poor thing. It goes by so slow, I know...Definitely try haveing sex, though. THe key is for your hubby to come inside of you though, because his semen contains prostaglandins, which is a chemical that causes uterine contractions.
Oh...I was 2 weeks late with my first. So it could be worse! Hang in there!
