Do they not get along because they're so much alike? Fundies, not all of course, but many, have the habit of saying others are going to hell, very aggressively, like Jesus gave his job of judgment to them, which of course he didn't. Rabid atheists basically do the same thing, agressively insult and put down christianity simply out of mean spirited aggression. Are both of these groups people who have very low esteem and feel the need to bully someone else? Are they simply very insecure, possibly bullied people themselves? Why else would they be so cruel to others? This is what usually lies behind animal abuse, the need to inflict pain on others, but safely enough to keep themselves away from the possiblity of going to jail for child abuse, but still hurting innocent, defenseless creatures, its the same mentality, bullies. Or is it actually that the fundies really do believe Jesus gave them His job? Are rabid atheists really so intimidated by the very sight of a cross?

Yes, I would think so. Atheists try to push their views on everyone else, and are very intolerant.

I'm not sure what qualifies as rabid, but I know many atheists of my acquantaince are ex-fundies and have absolutist personalities. They really want to know the truth. KNowing the truth represents safety and security and surety that they are not behaving wrongly. When they discover what they thought was God's own truth is nothing of the kind, they get very angry about the hours and years of effort they went through conforming to fundyism, or worse, the torment they put non-believers through as fundies, and they feel betrayed, angry, conned, ripped off, embarassed and they want pay back and to make damn sure it doesn't happen to someone else. And often after a couple of years they calm down. Leaving religion is often a lot like a divorce. It takes time for the pain to subside and often more time to rebuild the lost social support structure that comes with religious membership. Some after a while get a life and only poke the fundies with a sharp stick for amusement from time to time, or when things are slow and they're bored.

Well, being "rabid" is a problem, but the atheist has the obvious advantage of being right.

No. For one thing, a rabid athiest is much less likely to burn you at the stake or beat you senseless.

Any extremist sucks but the first two answers are the best. They made me laugh out loud, and I agree.
