Fruits because they have seeds? So, are we saying that squash, bell peppers, and similar vegetables are not vegetables?? Hmmm... I don't know if I can accept that one.

It was difficult enough to accept a tomato as a fruit many years ago when I first learned that. Okay, so it's biologically a fruit, but to me, tomatoes (and cucumbers, squash, and bell peppers) are veggies, and will always be veggies.

I think of a fruit as being acidic, sweet or sour (i.e. orange, lemon), with a certain texture. Granted, the reason is due to upbringing - I was brought up hearing certain foods called "fruit" and certain foods called "vegetable" - but still.

They say you can't teach an old dog a new trick. And since I feel like an old dog sometimes, I'll stick with the old tricks.... they're vegetables.

:-)

They both are vegetable although some say the tomato is a fruit. When I make a stew or soups I will use tomatoes.
It is a vegetable, not a fruit, because of how it is used.

I think tomatoes and cucumbers are both vegetables. But others say that it is a fruit, so it's really confusing.

But I looked it up and this is what is says:

to‧ma‧to  /təˈmeɪtoʊ, -ˈmɑ-/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[tuh-mey-toh, -mah-] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation

–noun, plural -toes. 1. any of several plants belonging to the genus Lycopersicon, of the nightshade family, native to Mexico and Central and South America, esp. the widely cultivated species L. lycopersicum, bearing a mildly acid, pulpy, usually red fruit eaten raw or cooked as a vegetable.
2. the fruit itself.
3. Older Slang (sometimes offensive). a girl or woman.

cu‧***‧ber  /ˈkyukʌmbər/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[kyoo-kuhm-ber] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation

–noun 1. a creeping plant, Cucumis sativus, of the gourd family, occurring in many cultivated forms.
2. the edible, fleshy fruit of this plant, of a cylindrical shape with rounded ends and having a green, warty skin.
3. any of various allied or similar plants.
4. the fruit of any such plant.

So I guess according to that, the tomato and cucumber are both fruits, but I really believe that they are both vegetables.

Tomatoes are a fruit because they are acidic. Cucumbers are vegetables, they are members of the squash family.

I believe they are both vegetables. They would both go on a sandwich, you usually don't put fruit on a sandwich. Fruits are sweet from natural sugars Mangos, grapefruits, bananas, etc.
