This may sound odd - but vigorous running will counter depression.
Running away from depression - how running controls depression symptoms - Brief Article
Running & FitNews, Sept, 2001
Although no one should throw out a prescription for antidepressants or discontinue psychotherapy or counseling, you should know that running can be as effective in controlling the symptoms of major depression as medication. In a recent study, 156 men and women with major depression either exercised for 40 minutes three times a week, took a prescription antidepressant, or exercised and took an antidepressant. Symptoms responded more quickly to medication, but over the long run exercise worked just as well. In another study with animal subjects, results showed the best results with physical activity and antidepressant medication.
For more information, visit the Web site of the National Institutes of Mental Health at www.nimh.nih.gov/depression and keep running.

St. Johns wort helps but you can't take it if you are on birth control pills.
To beat the blues sniff hot peppers!! The capsaicin they contain irritates nasal passages, so the body reacts by producing more pain-busting endorphins- which will also give you a feel-good energy rush.
Flax seed is also supposed to help relieve depression. You can buy it and mix it into a lot of foods (salads, sandwiches, etc)
Also, make yourself go outside for at least 30 minutes a day. Sunshine and fresh air can do wonders.

Yes, as a matter of fact there is. The media has tried to cover this up, because the huge pharmaceutical companies would lose too much money if it became well known, but if you take any depressant (heroine, morphine, THC, etc) and inject it into your eyeball, it will actually reverse the effects of the substance. It does this because as you inject it, it is inverted as it travels through your eyeball's lense, effectively the same way an image is upside-down as it hits your retina. Same thing.
Keep this a secret through.

There is an Herb called St. John's Wart that you can buy at the store under the vitamin section. It is known to aid in depression.

I have heard that St. John's wort can help depression. You can get it in health stores or possibly even in Wal-Mart over the counter. Don't know if it really works, though.

Technically, no unless you're trying to use an herbal for anti-depressant effects and their benefits are not that significant.
