Try calling your local sheriffs department and see if they have an "on call" Adult Protective Services worker...if they do, ask to have them contacted for an emergency and see if they can do something. I'm in a different state, but if that evidence was presented to officers here, she would be in a crisis center.

Are the officers aware of her self-mutilation, threats of self harm? If so, ask to speak to a supervisor...if they don't help, keep going up. Worse comes to worse, throw her butt in the car and take her to an ER...

From your story, she definitely qualifies under the Baker Act...here's the section of law:

1. Without care or treatment, the person is likely to suffer from neglect or refuse to care for himself or herself; such neglect or refusal poses a real and present threat of substantial harm to his or her well-being; and it is not apparent that such harm may be avoided through the help of willing family members or friends or the provision of other services; or

(a) 2. There is a substantial likelihood that without care or treatment the person will cause serious bodily harm to himself or herself or others in the near future, as evidenced by recent behavior.

No its not too much paperwork, I am sure the police in Florida would love to help you. Remember they are not mental health experts or doctors. They will probably need to go through the same channels you do to get her into a facility.

I hit your other question, too, hon, it's simple, dial 9-1-1, suicide attempt! The EMT's will take her in and the ER will admit her for at least a 72 hour observation, they have to if it's self inflicted wounds and dementia. Stay firm with them when they respond, tell them everything she's done, and that you want her evaulated. They will take her and the ER doc will do the rest.
