It's not the homosexuals it's the homosexUALITY In other words Kleptomaniacs don't go to jail because they are kleptomaniacs, they go to jail because they steal.

I'm not a Christian or a Catholic but I have met many Christians and Catholics who are very supportive of gay people, but still do not believe that the "sacrament" of marriage should be granted to them. Their answers are usually very enlightened and do not reflect any bigotry or hate. Usually it comes down to the term "marriage" as in "religious marriage". They generally support or atleast are not opposed to "civil marriage". In fact some of them think the term "marriage" should not be used by government and should just be used by religious people and then there are others I know who think that the word marriage should not be used by religious groups because it was a secular institution originally. In the end it all comes down to semantics and whether or not you are talking about the religious aspects or the government aspects. It can be quite interesting.

At the same time I have met Christians and Catholics that simply use their religions as a shield for whatever bigotted and hate they happen to already believe (not necessarily just on the issue of gay people either, but also about other people or other issues).

It is very easy to tell the difference between the two types when you are allowed to sit and really talk with people. The same goes with people of other religions as well.

I'm just sick of reading verses on here that people pick out of the Bible. You have to read the whole chapter folks. You have to understand that the word of God, is not all the word of God. Paul wrote against it several times, yes - but the context, the context is just as important.

I am baffled at the stupidity of some of these so called "Christians." If you're going to preach, you need to get your ducks in a row. I will gladly discredit your rediculous statements based on my knowledge of Greek and Hebrew. It's like other things;

It's a sad fact that the truths of evolution are undeniable and oftentimes, Christians find it difficult to accept that it is possible that evolution is part of the creation process. World religions since the very first civilizations have created their own stories of how the world began, but it is our unfortunate disposiiton to be in such a new country founded on such secular beliefs. If you study world religions previous to Christ, you will be amazed at the stories found within their faith...they will look familiar. The Bible, being translated upon the request of King James brought about a new order of interpretation. As we do today, the laws, social expectations, were translated to fit the need of the time. In the same section that Paul speaks against homosexuality, he also mentions that women she not speak out in church, and many other abominations that nobody wants to discuss. A heterosexual minister with the Episcopal Church presented an awesome sermon breaking down the biblical passages that pertain to homosexuality, by this minister going over the chapter instead of reciting the verses, the bigger picture was seen by the congregation.
There are tribes in Africa where the male must have a wife and a male companion. Native Americans honored homosexuals and looked at them as special healers and/or allowed them to work beside the women in their daily duties. Ancient Rome, the nobles had young man servants who done a little more than served coffee.
Our ignorant culture hides many truths and understandings. You have to ask yourself, why do the most educated folks, especially those of the hard sciences, choose not to believe in God. Things to consider.
I will be glad to forward the sermon fore mentioned if anyone would like to read it. charlesboster@yahoo.com OR if you have a rebuttal against my statement. Let me warn you before I attained my doctorate in sociology, I did attend seminary - I have a sorted past, but I know my business...I can assure you of that.
Kind Regards, CB

To the fellow that DID list more that a couple verses: Outstanding work, but your paraphrased version of the KJV is totally off in several instances - the background is geographic and tribal. I would be glad to put those passages into perspective if you happend across this Q&A again.

Who said Christians hate homosexuals? I'm a Christian and I have homosexual friends... I may not choose or agree with their lifestyle, but I have no right to judge anyone. "Those without sin may cast the first stone" is what the bible says, so I don't know where you get your interpretation of what a real Christian is. The bible doesn't tell us to hate, judge or diss anyone, so whoever does those things is not a Christian, or they are confused. I just want you to know that Christians DO NOT HATE homosexuals, true Christians anyway. Some people take what the bible says and force it down people's throats, even if they aren't sure if they are right by doing it. That's what some Christians do. They need to realize that even though that's what they believe, other people may not be the same. Just have to leave it in God's hands. Hope this helped you...

The stuff about homosexuality being an "abomination" is right next to killing your children for disobedience, stoning women who wear two kinds of cloth at the same time, and condemnning shrimp. Supposedly Jesus did away with these OT laws. So why do people cling to it like a beloved attic antique?

The "hate the sin and love the sinner" is BS. I have yet to meet anyone who can honestly make a differentiation between a "sin" and the one who commits it. I have most often heard this phrase right before an anti-homosexual rant. Usually about how homosexuals are trying so hard to "convert" people...as if sexuality and orientation was somehow a choice.

I am very straight, but I do not possess the instant "EWWWWW" reaction that so many Abrahamics recoil with.

1. God does love all people but hes not going to save all people. (Matthew 7:14)

2. Most Christians dont hate homosexuals. The Bible instructs us to hate sin, not sinners. Any person that claims to be a Christian and actively hates people isnt following the principles found in Scripture. (Matthew 5:44)

3. The reason we are not in favor of gay marriage is because it violates the principles found in Scripture. (Lev 18:22) Furthermore we are not even allowed to let them be members (1 Cor 5:1) or serve in the church. (but they are always welcome to visit)

4. The "peace and happiness" of unbelievers is not the mission of the church. The mission of the church is this.....

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. -Matthew 28:19

The Catholic Church believes there is nothing sinful about being homosexual. But homosexuals like all unmarried people are called to celibacy.

The Church specifically says that homosexuals "must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided."

With love in Christ.

Where did you ever hear that Christians and people who belong to religious orders hate Homosexuals?

I think its all in your head. You believe that because a religious order like the Catholics do not allow homosexual marriage they hate them.

Nothing can be further from the truth. Marriage is between a man and a women. God Himself gave us the example of marriage when He allowed Himself to be part of a family here on Earth.

I can tell you have not given yourself over to God yet have you. You have a lot of hate yourself judging by the content of this question.

Jesus said this and I think it could help you. He said to first remove the beam from your own eye before you remove the speck from your neighbors.><>

I don't hate homosexuals. Some of my best friends have been homosexual. And i'm Catholic. However, the bible states that the act of homosexuality is a sin. Having the attraction isn't sinful, it's acting on the attraction that's the sin. God hates sin, not sinners.

Because God's order is a tall order. We are just too damn stupid to understand most of it. Our short sightedness makes love selective - one that caters to what is only acceptable by us. This selectiveness is what hinders peace on Earth and war go around as business as usual.

Maybe if human evolved a little bit more spiritually, lots of these enterprises will suffer bankruptcy. War, religion, drugs and few others.
