They can't help it bless 'em! They have been completely brain washed by their right wing leaders and America is so insular that very few of them know what is really happening around the World outside of their own.

They hate Iran because they have been told to and are fed a load of rubbish by the non independent American media.

I agree with you, America is having a very skewed and dangerous influence on the World but they have got very little constructive to offer. Either shoot it, lock it up, starve it to death, execute it or impose mass poverty on your people seems to be their agenda. A very dangerous mind set indeed!

I have a challenge for all of you who are singing the praises of the Iran. Go there, find a nice public street corner, and then start shouting insulting remarks about the current government of Iran and about Mohammed. See how long you last. Here in the west, you can do the equivalent (substituting Jesus for Mohammed) and you may anger some people, but the police would probably protect you. In Iran, the police would probably encourage the mob attacked you if they didn't haul you off to jail.

The fact of the matter is that Iran does train and support several different terrorist groups that are bent on the destruction of Israel and the West. They are providing explosives to the insurgents inside of Iraq to help keep things stirred up there thereby fighting against our efforts to rebuild that country and help it become a full fledged republic. They are also showing every indication of pursuing a nuclear bomb which they could then supply to their terrorist allies. Their current president was one of the leaders of the group that took over our embassy in Tehran and held our diplomatic personnel hostage. (I have not heard him apologize for this.) Some here have praised the democratic nature of their government. I would ask, how can you really have a democratic government when it denies basic human rights thus keeping the people in fear of the government?

It is time to pull our collective heads out of the sand and realize that there is evil in the world and it is intent on taking away your liberties. No, it is not the current President of the United States. It is those that believe so strongly in their branch Islam that they are willing to throw their own people away as suicide bombers. It is the people who preach that dying in battle with the infidels will guarantee you entrance into paradise where however many virgins are waiting for you. I went to high school with a boy whose family had escaped from Iran not long after the Shah was over thrown. He said that we did not know how fortunate we were to live in America. From many of the post that people have made to this question, it is quite evident that there are still many people who don't understand just how lucky they are and just what it is that we face out there.

I don't know if I consider myself "obsessed" with politics, but I do pay a lot of attention....a lot of attention. And write my Congressmen and Senators a lot, too (and surprisingly sometimes they write back, too) and I'm involved in several grassroots political and social organizations as well as partly involved with my affiliated political party and vote every chance I get. I try to me an engaged citizen both on the national, state, county, and local levels.

I don't bash Iran. It's actually one of the healthiest democracies in the Middle East and the closest to being like western democracies (just a simple comparison). I do know and am aware that the histories between Iran and the US are full of all kinds of things that neither governments seem very interested in forgiving the other about (which is odd because I bet if all the people that live in each country got together they'd forgive it...mostly because they already sort of have...it's just the governments that seem to hold grudges longer). I actually have known some Iranian-Americans and got to meet their families from Iran from time to time. The city I grew up in doesn't have a large Iranian, Arab, Pakistani, or Indian population, but it does have a population. (just as it has Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, etc). They all seemed like really wonderful people and they're families were pretty much like my family and just as close. I may not always like what the government of Iran does or what the leaders say, but then again I don't always like what my own government does or what the leaders say (for that matter I don't always agree with the governments of several nations or agree with what the leaders of many nations say...but that's normal).

As for electing George Bush. I may be a fag (a homosexual), but I didn't elect him. I didn't vote for him (twice I didn't vote for him and he's still the freakin' President!!!). Atleast he can't get re-elected (thankfully Presidents only get two elected terms...so they can only serve eight years). Of course you just never really know who will run in 2008 and who might get elected, but I am trying to remain optimistic and hopeful.

Who knows, maybe...just maybe...the two nations will elect leaders that actually heal the wounds between us. And atleast Iran still has the IAEA in its nations, so it atleast is trying to abide by international law...unlike North Korea which kicked the IAEA out. I think if the nations just sit down and talk a lot could be really worked out. It's just a matter of getting the "egos" to calm down. Then again we are talking about politicians so....well....I guess we shouldn't expect tooooo much from them. :-)

Peace be with you.

Iran having nukes is not the problem. The problem lies in the fact that Iran will SELL them to groups like , oh, say, Hezbollah. And if Hezbollah got some, what do you think would happen? And then Iran gets what they want, a nuke dropped on israel, without the responsibility of the bomb,

That is the problem. Another issue is, they are a theocracy. they dont care about the well being of anyone but themselves. They brainwash their citizens to hate. it would be like the KKK running the USA. Nothing good will ever happen under that set up. I hope Isreal knocks them off the map first.

Well, I'm American, and I could care less about Iran and what they are doing. They got nukes? So waht? So do we. Just cuz we dont like them and dont want them to have them because we dont agree isn't a good enough reason.

If Iran is supporting terrorists, then that's a different story, but I really don't think they are. They are trying to make it in the world, just like us--except we are their problem.

I don't agree with a lot of their conservative ideals, but it's not my place, or anyone's place, to tell them that they are wrong.

And yes, I believe Bush is screwing up the world too. But I didn't vote for him either time.

BTW I am of Middle Eastern descent, so my answer may be more sympathetic than other Americans.

perhaps, but in the states, you can't be tortured and murdered simply for disagreeing with the president unlike Iranians who are not allowed to voice an opinion. In the Us, women aren't beaten for going out into the street to sweep the steps without being supervised by a man.. In America, women don't have to feel shame when going to a doctor. In America, its against the law to sell your daughter to some old man she has never met. in america, its the rapist who is punished, not his victim.

You think it has anything to do with Backing a Terrorist Organization against a legitimate government. Or could it be that it's President openly would like to commit Genocide?

Well the loon in Iran wishes for Israel and the US to be wiped off the map, so I think we have a good reason to not care for them.
And that little thing about them funding terror groups like Hamas,Hezbollah, and other such groups.
