You have already started the process of recovery! Admitting that you have a problem is step 1. I suggest that you speak with your doctor, about safe methods to withdraw, and perhaps after you have been detoxed (sometimes this can be done in a clinic and with a minimum of the chance of physcial HARM or the danger or withdrawal related convulsions or other bone wrenching pain, sweats, chills, stomach ailments etc). At your age, and with other physcial ailments, you probably should have a "medical withdrawal". I know I watch that show "Intervention" on A&E, so being that you are a victim of Hurricane Katrina, and you know you have a problem, you could ask someone like that to help you...The show comes on A&E on Sunday nights about 10:pm here (Arizona time)...I do not recommend trying to detox alone, but it can sometimes be done with the help of some determined friends who will stick with you and a medication to help keep your blood pressure under control. Your body is probably dependent, and quitting cold can sometimes be dangerous. Try going to an NA meeting and asking them for help and resources. The Salvation Army runs some clinics for addiction, one of the biggest hurdles is to beat the physical dependency, so see what resources are available to you. Perhaps you could try calling the Intervention show but I applaud your desire to recover, and be drug free.
Good luck and once you are physically clean, try to work a 12 step program, and remember once an addict ALWAYS an addict. You cannot just have a little something to help you beyond the pain EVER again, because just as you may beat the addiction, if you ever go back to it, it's a progressive disease and you will have to start all over again.
My best to you, and you are not a BAD person, many people are addicted and they really put theirselves and the people who love them through a lot of pain and CRAP! Keep your thoughts positive, you know you have a problem, so now go find the RIGHT folks to help you put it in your past! You may have to change things in your life that "trigger" your desire for drugs, so I know that you are going to have to leave behind anyone who enables you, or they too will have to have therapy to learn how to treat and interact with your new drug free self! Things are going to seem bleak (maybe) for awhile, I love you enough to tell you if you don't stop and you begin to turn to street drugs like heroine or coke, that these things only lead to two places, either the graveyard or a prison cell. You know that you need help. Talk to people who will do what they can to help you make an honest effort (go to Narcotics Anonymous and tell them you need help, this thing WILL probably seem bigger than you at times, but you have to do what you know you have to do! And there are some good people who will help you. Call AA if you cannot find NA listed, and tell them ALL of the drugs you are taking and if they offer you help right away be ready to go, don't just hang out another day to get a buzz because you know it's going to make you feel bad when you quit...
Keep strong sister. I abused Cocaine for a few years, and now because of spinal problems and cancer I do take pain killers now (never more and rarely as much as is prescribed, but I am still using :-( and it really bothers me too.) I know without them, I would be in horrible pain 24/7 but I am still a drug addict when it comes right down to it. Take care of yourself, and though I have no right to be giving this kind of advice, because I am an addict still and always...I no longer "abuse" drugs, they call it medications, but a drug is a drug is a drug...so I hope you can have better luck than I have had.
Take some faith into this process with you, whatever you believe, knowing that you have the help of your diety of choice (mine is God) is always important. Good luck!

My guess is that you would like to try this on your own first or you would have spoken with doc? If you are taking HIGH doses or you are mixing and matching other peoples scrips...please seek professional you could die. I was on tabs for 3 yrs before a hysterectomy...when I was done, I was withdrawing horribly. I started taking herbal remedies and forcing myself to walk a while each day. St, John's wort, multivitamin with iron, potassium, B-150, chromium picolinate and glucosamine and chondroitin. I also popped ibuprofen when I really needed it. It was 3 weeks detoxing and I still crave, but NA will help for free. GOOD LUCK!!!

A medical professional got you started with these medicines and now you have a dependency on them. Let the medical professionals help you get off them. This is a common problem. Make sure you see somebody who helps folks with dependencies on prescription drugs.

Hello-first you are doing the right thing by asking for help-I am a recovering addict so I know what I am talking about. Go to treatment-painkillers are the hardest and most dangerous drugs to withdrawal from-you should not try to detox yourself. TALK to someone,o.k?

Hold out as long as you can without taking any and record how long you can go without medicating... This way, you can see your progress...
