I go to the bar and there are usually girls there that I can approach and talk to, but I have trouble bringing it to a level beyond that. What can i do to kind of move beyond small talk with a girl?

At the bar, you can' t. Its the meat market. Just about the meat. The buyers and the retailers. But only meat.
If you want to talk, ask the girl what shes interested in, and maybe she'll give you a straight answer-but probably not. The maybe, you can go to her favorite activity.

Well, at least you've got the small talk. I've got a guy who ignores me completely and says nothing to me. Progress slowly, you're doing good.
Don't ask her to go back to your place because if she isn't loose then she'd feel uncomfortable. Ask if she'd like to get together sometime. Exchange numbers. :) Stuff like that. Just don't freak her out with, "OMG I LOVE YOU SO MUCH MARRY ME." ...which I'm sure you wouldn't do in the first place. Just be calm, collected, and confident! :D Good luck!

Well, I think of small talk as how's the weather or boy this place is crowded tonight - stuff you can say to anyone. To move it up a step start asking her questions about her.

You talk about more intimate subject...whats your Ideal vacation, what kind of guy do you like, or what your favorite placed to be kissed...on your body. It does not get to personal, but lets them know you want to take the conversation deeper.

Get her drunk. hahaha...No seriously, there will be these little things called signals. Try catching them, and if their positive signals then go for it, and take it to another level. I think bars are for small talk. Ask her for a date and then you can delve into deeper conversation.
