Why do some people on here insist on swearing in their answers?
I was told that people who swear have a limited vocabulary and cannot express themselves properly.
What do you think?

And I can bet there will be some idiot that will give an answer full of expletives!

Swearing is a form of cliche. It saves having to think. Some people believe swearing adds emphasis or import to their statement. This of course won't be noticed because I never bothered to swear.

Beyond angry or upset words said in the heat of the moment, swearing does a lot of work in social interactions. In the past, researchers have theorized that men swear to create a masculine identity and women swear to be more like men. More recent studies, however, theorize that women swear in part because they are emulating women they admire.

In addition, the use of particular expletives can:

Establish a group identity
Establish membership in a group and maintain the group's boundaries
Express solidarity with other people
Express trust and intimacy (mostly when women swear in the presence of other women)
Add humor, emphasis or "shock value"
Attempt to camouflage a person's fear or insecurity

People also swear because they feel they are expected to or because swearing has become a habit. But just because swearing plays all these roles doesn't mean it's socially acceptable, or even legal.

I must admit I swear occassionally...I don't think it's a bad thing always, in some contexts it can add passion to a statement, only people swearing excessively is annoying. On here tho there are a lot of children (some of them adults) who just want a cheap laugh because they've got nothing real to say or, as you so eloquantly put if, have a limited vocabulary and cannot express themselves properly. Sometimes, a swear word is just the perfect word to make that point.

"Darn" does not always fit the situation. I also think swearing is not a vocabulary issue, but more of a moral issue with some people. Goodie-too shoes don't swear.

I too was told by an art teacher in my long ago school days that people who swear have a limited grasp of the English language and by throwing in a swear word it gives their brain time to think of the next word, I often think of his words and totally agree.

They insist on swearing I think because they don't know how to be nice to people. I agree with you that they have a limited volcabulary. I think that it is very disrespectful that people swear not just in their answer's but in their questions as well.

I know that for me personally, cursing is some what of a habit. I am educated, and I actually work with children. I have never cursed in front of them, but in the privacy of my own home, or when in the company of adults, I curse. I think the difference between myself and the average cursing Joe is I know when it is appropriate.

You should also take into account that some people on here curse because they think it adds shock value.

I only swear to get a reaction out of people, like I'll say, "Yo, look at that fuckin' cripple and his "ghetto-***" wheel chair." Although I don't have a limited vocabulary it is often funnier to CREATIVELY use foul language to create a specific "mood". People who swear left and right without reason are just a bunch of dickheads that have nothing else to do with their lives and make the world a better place.

I swear lots, but I tell you, my vocabulary isn't limited. I was top of the class in my English group. I'm just an angry person, that's all. I am not stupid, so you people who think EVERYONE who swears is stupid, think again.

I hear you Ma'am, I think that if we can't show some politesse and tolerance toward one another, what hope can there be for peace in the world?
And when you lose your temper and have to make personal attack, you lose the intellectual high-ground of the dispute.
