Jean-Jacques Rousseau, in "the Social Contract", mentions how Christians should have no reason to care about government affairs since they are "not of this world". So why do Christians serve their country at all, or care about the law?

Christians should care about government because they live under government.

Christians are only supposed to care about government to the point of obeying it (provided they don't contradict God's laws, which take precedence). Jesus told his followers "You are to be no part of the world, just as I am no part of the world." Jesus refused people's attempts to make him King and get involved in the political system of the time. Governments serve a God-appointed purpose by keeping some level of order on the earth (without which there would be anarchy). But by running for office, voting, etc. a Christian would be showing their support for man's rule, which is doomed to failure, and trust that it can solve man's problems. This would be a lack of trust and appreciation for the government God has set up in heaven which will soon destroy current governments at Armageddon.

Do you drive on the highway? On a city street? Do you subscribe to a web service? Own a computer? Do the street lights come on at night? Does the sewer work? Rousseau is famous for his extreme view - but you live and function in the modern world, and you enjoy its advantages to one degree or another. Christians are of this world because they live on only this planet. We all need to be good stewards of the country in which we live, the environment around us, and of higher ideals than those of Rousseau. Everything evolves, like it or not.

Because Christian, unlike Jean-Jacques Rousseau, read their Bibles. It tells us that we are to obey our governments in Romans 14, and to pray for our governments in Timothy, We have a different country but that is to come in the future. Here and now we live in our own countries and support them as best we can. We are also grateful to them. God tells us that rulers are ministers of God and we have allegiance to them.

The Christians are the ones who provide the faith and hope to endure a bad situation that is usually created by the government or mother nature. Of course they care about the government, probably the only ones who do because when it comes right down to it, we clean up the mess and finish cleaning up the mess. We don't leave till its done.

Because as long as christians are of this world (i.e. not in heaven...or hell), they are humans living in a society with other humans. The bare-bones basic function of government is to meet the needs of a society of people. So until christians no longer have earthly needs they will have to contribute in one way or another to the society, and therefore be governed.

1. Because God said so
2. In this country, USA, we have a vested interest in what happens with what laws are legislated, etc.

Christians should be far more active than they are because we we are silent the government tends to take away freedoms. Site: germany 1939...

Because we're governed. By God's law we have to follow the law of the land unless it contradicts God's laws. Which means we have a God-given responsibility to act on our behalfs in matters of government.

We have an obligation to vote, & a responsibility to vote for the people who will govern us as closely to God's laws as possible.
(Doesn't mean we always get it right!)

We have the same reasons as anyone else to see our freedoms maintained.

Actually, we are really suppose to watch over everything and Judge it. Then if it get's out of Line with GOD's Word, we are suppose to Pray, Believe and bring it back into Line with GOD.
How's that for Governing?
p.s.Jesus Paid HIS taxes too.
