Some people just need a good listener. People generally feel better about problem if they are able to verbalize they're feelings. No I don't feel less sensitive, no I don't avoid the situation, and yes I welcome the opportunity to help. That's what friends do. "Dumping" is a way of coping. You should feel lucky that your friends trust you to solve their problems instead of listing them here. If you want to talk about you start talking instead of waiting for the invite.

No, but I must have a sign that says "Tax me some more, I can afford it!" In all seriousness, I believe compassion is one of the many good qualities that too few people practice. Honesty is another. If you take reasonable time to have the compassion to let someone else vent to you, have the honesty to let them know that you cannot resolve the situation for them. Encourage them to resolve the issue themselves, and if they just want to continue to complain without taking action, be honest and tell them exactly that. It is impossible to help someone who is unwillling to help themselves.

I am way more is a listener than a talker, personally. I love listening to people problems and giving them my advice- and people say that I am pretty good at it. I like that people can trust me enough to ask me really personal questions, or tell me about their tough times; it makes me feel good.

I allow people to dump on me and they dont care what the hell is going on with me. In the long run I know this persons whole life and they dont know anything about me. It can come in handy if you ever want to use some info against her/him to gain a step up in life. Does this make sense????

Whoever fights monsters should see to it
that in the process
he does not become a monster.
And if you gaze long enough into an abyss,
the abyss will gaze back into you.

yes I seem to attract a lot of "girl-friends" who tellme every single problem, in their life over and over again , AND cut me off when i start to talk.
It temporarily made me less sensitive, I haven't lived long enough to see any long term effect
I've discovered that if you don't responds with "uh huh;s" or "oh yeahs" or anything that encourages them to go on, just don't respond and change the subject, it makes it a little more painless

WELL, IT KIND OF DEPENDS ON WHO IT IS. IF YOU KNOW THAT IT'S THE SAME QUESTION ABOUT A GUY THAT'S TREATING YOUR FRIEND LIKE TRASH FOR THE 7TH YEAR IN A ROW, THEN I'D SAY FIND A WAY TO AVOID THE SITUATION...OTHERS...THEN MAYBE YOU SHOULD WELCOME THE OPPORTUNITY BECAUSE THEY'RE LOOKING TO YOU FOR ADVICE...KIND OF LIKE THEY ADMIRE YOU AND VALUE YOUR OPINION.

I would say that I fall into the latter category. If that's the worst thing someone can impose on me I say, let them.
