Thanks for posting this. Some people are music snobs and feel that genius only fits into a very small category. There are a great many geniuses in the world of music.I listen to and play rock, classical, jazz fusion, heavy metal and blues. The music world will never come together for the same reason that the world won't.Everyone has an opinion and feels that it's fact.My short list of geniuses.Vivaldi,Jimmy Page,Allen Holdsworth,Rachmaninoff,Tchaikovsky,Chick Corea and a host of others.I love every form of music ever done with thought and soul. You should enjoy music as art(not that all of it is,I'll stay on a positive note).Just because something doesn't fit into your idea of what music is doesn't mean you should trash it.I'm cherishing this opportunity to vent my frustration over the state of affairs in the music world and the rest of the world.Thank you for this very thoughtful and provocative question.Everyone you mentioned is a genius to me.Joe

OK, Mozart was a genius because he proved he was one. When he was 6, his parents took him to a concert, and as soon as they came back home, he went up his room and transcribed the whole concert. The next day he showed his father, Leopold Mozart, what he had done during the night. Leopold was a well known musician, and he was so amazed that he took the transcription to the composer of the concert the went the night before, and as the composer saw it, he could not believe that a six year old could remember it with such detail that he could write it down with no mistake.
By the age of 9, he wrote his first symphonic opus, without previous studies of composition or orchestration.
This to name just a couple of things that proved he was indeed a genius.
Did Robert Plant, Jason Bonham, John Lennon, Ringo Star, or anyone from those rock and roll bands ever do something like that?
Have you ever ask them personally if the compare themselves to Mozart?
I wouldn´t call them geniuses just because you like them so much.
Mozart WAS and PROOVED to be a genius. Led Zeppelin and The Beatles where just cool guys.

Mozart is a person and Led Zeppelin and the Beatles groups of people. Is there a particular band member that is a genius? Perhaps, but are they all geniuses? Not likely.

Well, in this case, most people believe that all these famous names are geniuses in their own ways. However, perhaps the reason why Mozart could be more revered is because his music has attained great popularity for a vast amount of time. Although Led Zeppelin and the Beatle's music are still quite popular for quite some time now, it hasn't nearly received the longevity of that of Mozart.

because more people today play mozart than zepplin or the beatles. many rock musicians also find their inspiration from these classical composers. mozart is lasting. people think he's a genius now and people will always think he's a genius. in terms of musical complexity, no rock band can ever touch mozart, bach, handel, whoever.

Whoever told you they aren't is ignorant of music. Ever listen to Strawberry Fields or Kashmir? If that isn't genius, I don't know what is.

Not enough time has passed for due consideration of the latter you mentioned. It's still to "stuck" in the pop culture circles.
