Could be number of things, from pulled muscle, to tension headache, or a more serious condition, including a pinched nerve. You may want to consider seeing a Chiropractor. I have worked for Chiros since '98 and get adjusted regularly. HUGE improvement with headaches and neck pain.

Partly because our heads are heavy! That poor little neck has to work hard. The tension throughout the day will make it worse also. Try ice on your neck - that always feels good. Make sure you aren't sleeping in a position that puts your neck at an awkward angle - and don't sleep on your stomach.
I have a water pillow that I love. You add as much water as is comfortable and it supports the head and neck very well. Hope it feels better soon - I go to the chiropracter when my neck hurts.

Sometimes if you sleep with your head/neck in an awkward position, when you wake in the morning your neck will ache. As the day goes on it WILL get worse, sometimes to the point of being unable to move it at all without wincing with pain. It may last a couple of day's.You could try some painkillers to ease it slightly, plus maybe drape a scarf around your neck to add some warmth. Heat will help to ease the pain.I do hope you get some relief quickly, its miserable.

Usually a dark, quiet room with a cold washcloth on my wife's forehead helps her some, but nothing really takes away all the pain until the episode is over in a few hours. Hope this helps and good luck!

sitting too much in one place, being on the computer too long, reading a book can give you sore muscles just take your fingers and try to rub out the kinks on the sides of your neck or put a hot washcloth on your neck to loosen the muscles and relieve the pain
