Chicken pox is a live virus - and can only be caught by someone else. It is now a school requirement that children have the chicken pox vaccine, prior to starting school. If your son goes to daycare, they may also have this requirement.

It is better for him to have the chicken pox as a child, then as an adult. Chicken pox in adults is shingles, which is much worse.

Keep in mind, that how many viruses go - there are several strings of chicken pox. So, if he gets vaccinated for one, he is still not 100% protected against ever getting it. Not to mention that he will need boosters every so many years.

he can be in the same room as some one to get them, store and somebody might still be contagious(that's a Little harder) And they can also get it when they get the shot to prevent the chicken pox. There are many ways but your best chance may be to play with someone who has them, But being the age he is he may have already got the shot from the hospital the day he was born.

my sons are 9 and 11 and neither one has had the chicken pox either,it's not too common anymore.

yes, because it is transmitted from someone who has chicken pox to someone who has not had chicken pox

it may be difficult to know because the person who has chicken pox at the time may not have shown any signs of the disease yet

don't worry, your kid's got a long way to go...and if you are worried get a vaccination...

They have to be exposed to the chicken pox in order to get them. Sometimes the vaccine will also cause a mild case to develop.

Your child does not have to suffer through chicken pox like we had to anymore. They have a vaccine for it now and it's required for him to get it prior to reaching kindergarten unless your child gets the pox prior to that. Spare you child the anguish, get him the vaccine. None of my kids have ever had the chicken pox and I am so thankful!

How Does Chickenpox Spread?
Chickenpox is contagious (say: kon-tay-jus), meaning that someone who has it can easily spread it to someone else. Someone who has chickenpox is most contagious during the first 2 to 5 days that he or she is sick. That's usually about 1 to 2 days before the rash shows up. So you could be spreading around chickenpox without even knowing it!

A person who has chickenpox can pass it to someone else by coughing or sneezing. When he or she coughs, sneezes, laughs, and even talks, tiny drops come out of the mouth and nose. These drops are full of the chickenpox virus. It's easy for someone else to breathe in these drops or get them on his or her hands. Before you know it, the chickenpox virus has infected someone new.

Check your child's shot records. If he has had the shot called varicella-then he has had the vaccine. They don't just get them, there has to be exposure. However, it is possible to get them and not know who it was that exposed him if they have not had the vaccine. Sometimes kids can still get it even though they had the vaccine, but it is generally a milder case.

If they get the shot it is usually before age 2.

Yeah it is highly contagious. It spreads through Virus. So it may even spread on the flakes that fall out of the people. Hence need to be more careful.

usually if a child is around a kid with chickenpox then its very likely for them to get it. some kids just get it out of nowhere. but its better for them to get them while they're younger so if he is exposed to someone with them, dont be alarmed. but also that he hasnt had them yet dont worry. i didnt get mine until i was in 4th grade.
